This afternoon my wife turned her computer on (Win 8). She logged in (to her limited user account). Within several seconds the display started toggling between the Win 8 start screen and the desktop. The computer was unresponsive to the mouse. I did a hard stop with the power key. When I restarted it, the computer went into an auto disc scan and repair routine (at this point I'm thinking "Oh, f...!). Once that had finished, I logged in to her account again. The computer just got to where it was all ready to use when the previously described symptoms started again. i did another power key off and tried logging in to an admin account. Everything went the same, except I decided to just let it misbehave for a while to see if anything would change. In not very long, the computer display stabilized and became responsive to the mouse and keyboard. In the middle of the desktop was a "Welcome to Norton 360" window. With that I went to the Norton forums to see what was going on. Remarkably, as best I can tell, the updated 360 is working fine as is every thing else now. I'm not sure how though. I just turned off "auto install new versions" on our other computer. It's possible this came in as a Live Update patch as I accepted and installed one this morning. The problems occurred the next time the computer was started.
I've noticed that others are having similar (and worse) issues with your little surprise package. This appears to be a bigger change than a normal patch. You should have done a better job of warning your customers. I'm livid. What were you thinking?
