Hi jmichae3,

Check whether if you have any third-party security programs. If present, remove them from the computer.

1. Open Windows registry, take a backup of the registry and then navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root"

2. Remove any entry which is related to the 3rd party security product.

3. Open device manager and remove any any entry which is related to the 3rd party security product.

4. Go to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder and remove the 3rd party security product entries.

5. Restart the computer.

Thanks,

Sheen

nope. every time those things offer to install, I uncheck the checkbox. don't want 'em because I know they will conflict. I already have norton.

had mcafee before norton. I uninstalled it. but I did not use a removal tool.

in my IE there is a mcafee secure search still left. not sure whether this is a DLL

no toolbar. I just removed it. not sure if there were any DLL's associated with that search provider or not. I don't use IE much.

Here is a link to the McAfee removal information and utility. You should run that to clear all settings and entries.

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

Then you should download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool to clean up your Norton installation.

Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.

can't download it because the product is expired.

If you are saying your 360 is expired, that is why you cannot use LiveUpdate or any other function of 360. You will need to renew or purchase another key.

no. the mcafee is expired so I can't download the zapper.

Look under the section: Windows XP users

Click the link in line 2a

We are not supposed to post direct links to exe files or we would post it here but the tool is called MCPR,exe

I'm sure if you do as Peter suggested it will take care of your problems.

Best of luck

Dave

Did you ever find a resolution?  From another 3048,3 sufferer/.

how do you think I can trigger the "problem" as a forced test?

that is, rather than wait another month only to find out that solution wasn't it? (or that it was?)

I just had a thought about the  monthly timing.

There could be a couple of things that are triggered monthly. Check your settings for a full system scan. If the schedule is set for 30 days, try setting that to 1 or 2 days to see if that triggers the error.

Another item that may trigger action is the monthly security report. Check in settings, and look for a setting for Monthly Report. In NIS it is under Settings - General - Other Settings. Maybe someone using 360 can guide you for your product. You cannot change the schedule, but you can turn the feature off.

@ peterweb, per your request:

In N 360 > Settings > Administrative Settings > Monthly Report

that didn't seem to do anything.special

The Monthly Report setting will only prove itself after 30 days or so.

It is the setting for the full system scan that can be tested more quickly. You will only have to wait a day longer than you set the time frame.

"It is the setting for the full system scan that can be tested more quickly. You will only have to wait a day longer than you set the time frame."

(?) what is the variable "it"? are you saying I should just start a full system scan or that I should wait a day longer and do nothing, or wait a day longer an do a full system scan? did you mean then instead of than and if so, how do I set the time frame (of what exactly)?
