360 and my Nikon Camera

I recently installed Norton 360 on my laptop and ran all the scans.. everything looks good...

However... now when I hook up my Camera to download pics the computer doesnt see it.. It makes the noise it normally does when a device is connected, but when I go to my computer it isnt there.... ??

However, when I take the SD card out of the camera and put it into the card slot everything seems normal... pics download and no obvious issues...

any ideas?

Welcome Rob,

Are you using any sort of photo editing software? I've got a package on my system and once that program recognized the camer a I was off and running. Now I can move or copy pictures with just a few clicks. The rest of it would be easier if I were a better photographer.

Dick,

I'm using the camera software disc and I had NO issues prior to installing N360.

looks like its blocking the incoming USB... tried other ports and got the same thing...

gonna try and run a USB thumb drive and see if it recognizes the drive

I read somewhere that uninstalling the camera software and reinstalling it may help... it didnt... that was a wasted hour of my life.

Usually that means that some kind of driver is needed to recognize the camera and that usually does come as part of a suite from the camera maker.

If you look in Windows Explorer, the file manager (WINKEY + E will take you there) do you see the camera or a reference to it?

HAve a look in Device Manager (WINKEY + Pause key) to see if there are any devices with a /!\ or other flag against them indicating something needs fixing?

Were you able to read direct before installing N 360?

Have you asked Nikon Support?

One other place to check is the network security map.

When the device [camera] is plugged in it should have at least a shared trust level.

Hugh,

Thanks for your input... It took a few tries, but I was able to figure it out....

It was indeed driver related... when I viewed the drivers, it showed a registry error (that it didnt have prior to N360)... so I tried to update the driver, and it said the driver was up to date...

I wound up uninstalling the driver completely and then hooking the camera back up to the computer and turning it on... recognized it right off and reinstalled the driver on its own.

I am back to normal..... glad it was a rainy day to spend inside fooling with the machine. Much more productive and cleaner than changing lifters in my turbo mustang... :)

Thanks for the help.....

Dick, it needed to see the camera first before it could do any of that... but look at my previous post for the solution.

Glad it worked out in the end ... and we all learned something ....
