360 disappears with error 8504, 101

Running 360 on Windows XP Home. Over the past few months, Norton periodically "disappears." The Quick Launch icon does not display and the program does not start when the shortcut is double-clicked. In the Task Manager, iuStub is listed as running, but CPU usuage is 0% and no 360 interface appears. I ran Norton Removal Tool and then reinstalled 360. Program reappeared and gave me an AutoFix message for Error 8504, 101 and said it was unable to find an automated fix. It sent me to a page that instructed me to run the Removal Tool and reinstall which I did a second time with the same results: 360 running, but giving me error 8504, 101.

After the reinstall, 360 ran for 24 hours and then disappeared again. Repeated Norton Removal Tool, reinstall and again was given error 8504, 101. I've lost 360 and reinstalled it six or seven times in the past week. I'm stuck in a loop: Remove, Reinstall, Error 8504, 101, 360 disappears again within hours or days, and then start all over again.Tried running Power Eraser several times in this process, but it found no problems and made no difference.

I just renewed 360 and it's a complete waste of money if I can't get the program to run for more than a few hour or days at a time. I reviewed all the Knowledge Base and forum posts on this situation and error 8504, 101 and have found nothing that helps. Several threads on 360 disappearing and giving this error are marked "Solved" but give no real solution or the solutions posted have not worked for me so far.
