360 Does Not Recognize Password

I recently upgraded from 2012 to 360, I went to check settings and it won't let me.  Telling my password is incorrect.

Your automated responses say sign in to my account.  I did no problem there.  But 360 won't let me sign in.  Then your chat said to retart my computer, I did...still the same.

My account highlighted that  it needs attention for renewal on my 2012. I upgraded to 360.  All is there to see yet I keep getting email's regarding renewal on the 2012.

Could use a little help here please. :smileysad:

Consequently, your Norton 2012 is still installed and active, and its subscription is running out; that's why you continue to get the renewal messages. It is not a good idea to have multiple security suites loaded on the same machine at the same time, so if you installed your new Norton 360 without first removing Norton 2012, this could be the root of your problem.

It sounds like DB1 may have set up a different Norton Account for Norton 360, although it is not really clear if that is the case.  As long as the Norton 360 account can be accessed, there should be no problem, since the Norton 2012 product is no longer being used.

Anytime a license is up for renewal, the user will be notified.  If the user has purchased a new license (with a different Product Key) or switched to a different product, the notification for the old license will still be sent.  DB1 can simply ignore these, since he does not plan on continuing to use the previously installed product.  There is no concern about having two Norton security products installed at the same time because the Norton installer will not allow that situation to come about.  The installer will see the currently installed program and, depending on what it is, will either uninstall it automatically, or will give the user a choice of replacing it or aborting the installation of the new product.

Hi,

If you're still getting the Emails regarding the expired subscription then contact our chat support and ask the technician to Disable Your old product.

The Password you'd mentioned, is it your Norton account password ( in the complete your activation window) or the Norton settings password?

Hi, Subash,

What Norton settings password?? Is there a feature that I've missed, all these years? Since it looks like SendOfJive may not have been aware of it either, if you didn't misspeak, could you say a little about it and how it gets set up so that other users seeing this thread (including those trying to help solve it!) can better understand the situation?

Hi Jim & SoJ,

Yeah, we do have a option called "Settings Password protection" under Administrative settings of the product.

About this in detail:

It protects the product settings from unauthorized access. The password must be between 8 to 256 characters in length. By default, this option is turned off.

Note:

You must enter the password each time to view or configure your product settings and to turn on or turn off protection features.

However, if you forget your settings password, you can reset the password in the window that appears when you choose to uninstall Norton 360. You need not uninstall the product to reset your password. You can use the reset settings password option in the uninstall preference window to reset your password. This option appears in the uninstall preference window only when you have set a settings password. You can set a new password after typing the randomly generated characters that are displayed in the dialog box to reset your password.

You can turn off the Settings Password Protection option if you no longer require password protection for Norton 360 settings.

Prasanna

Thanks, Prasanna!

Looks like your explanation may also contain the solution to that part of the OP's problem as well :smileyhappy:

Hi prasanna_a, thanks for that information.

As DistEd2 says this looks potentially good news for DB1, however it sort of begs the question "why have a password" if anyone can get around it by going to the "reset the password" option?  Or have I misunderstood?

Hi Mike,

That's actually a pretty easy question which all will ask when they know that the workaround is very easy for resetting the password but its really a tough question to answer you know.. :smileywink:

The answer would be actually, user preference to have a password. It protects the installed product from unauthorized access its more or less like a parental control over the product settings.

Regards,

Prasanna.

It also looks like--having a sort of reCAPTCHA functionality involved--it may help protect against malware altering the Norton settings to disable the user's protection.

I've posted the procedure for resetting the Settings Password often, as recently as a few days ago

Oops; sorry--I should only have spoken for myself! :smileysad:

Hi all,

The Settings Password in Norton is to protect the changes made by the Admin in the settings from the Std.users. And i believe an Admin only can launch the uninstaller.
