360 Premiere installs 360 Deluxe

I have a current subscription to 360 Premiere that I wanted to install on my phone. On the phone, I logged into my Norton account-Subscriptions and selected Download to this device. Partway through the download, I was transferred to Google Play Store to complete the install which was completed on my phone with two major problems:

  1. None of the three open slots I had for Premiere was used. A new subscription for 360 Deluxe was installed on the phone - both were listed in my Norton Acct-Subscriptions.
  2. A charge for ~ $130 for Deluxe was made on my card.

I removed 360 Deluxe from my phone & Norton acct, chatted with Support, explaining the situation, and asked for the charge to be removed. No joy there. I was eventually told the problem would be escalated to a higher level of Support and would hear from someone there within a week.

Five days later, after hearing nothing, contacted Support via Chat and was told the higher level had not resolved the issue yet. The agent also implied I had done something wrong when tried to install Premiere but got Deluxe. I asked if he would take control of my PC and walk me through it again. Answer: “Yes”.

While he ‘looked over my shoulder’, I went through the install steps. The result was exactly the same as before - another subscription to Deluxe and another $130 charge to my card. The agent said he would add that issue to the previous one the higher Support group was reviewing. Again, I removed 360 Deluxe from my phone and account.

I did a follow-up at at Google Play Store and discovered they did not offer an install of Premiere, only Deluxe. Contacted Support again, but they refused to discuss anything other than telling me the higher Support group was still reviewing my case.

That rubbed me the wrong way, so I immediately filed a dispute with my bank re the second charge, which I won. Later, I was contacted by the Support team and told the first charge had been cancelled.

A few weeks later, with a Support agent again with me, I once more tried the install. 360 Deluxe was again installed and a $130 charge was posted to my card. However, before the Chat ended, he took steps to cancel the charge while leaving 360 Deluxe on my phone.

At this point, I’m back to being even pricewise, but at the expense frustration and of a few hours of my time. Being a resolute anti-Google person, I believe Norton should sever its links with Google. Their old way of doing things worked better.

Are you reporting that the following steps do not work?

Norton 360 Mobile Installation Frustrations

I’m truly sorry for the repeated hassles and charges you’ve dealt with— that’s incredibly frustrating, especially after multiple support chats. It sounds like the process redirected to a new Google Play purchase (Deluxe tier) instead of recognizing your existing Premiere subscription slots. Based on current Norton documentation and user guides, higher-tier plans like Premiere (often aligned with Premium or LifeLock Ultimate Plus) use the same Android app as Deluxe—features unlock via your account login, without new charges.

Why This Happens

  • Single App for All Tiers: The Google Play Store offers “Norton 360 Antivirus & Security” (or Norton Mobile Security) as one app (faviconPlay Store link). Your subscription level (Premiere/Deluxe/etc.) determines features and device slots once logged in—no separate “Premiere” app exists.
  • Common Pitfall: During install, if not signed in properly or if Play Store prompts billing first, it may default to a trial/purchase flow for Deluxe. Google Play handles Android app distribution, so Norton integrates with it for seamless updates/security.
  • Your Slots: Premiere covers more devices/slots (up to 10+ typically), so it should apply without new subs.

Installation Steps (With Existing Subscription)

Follow these exactly—do not select any “Subscribe” or “Download via Play” buttons that prompt payment:

  1. On your phone: Open Google Play Store, search “Norton 360”, and install the official app (developer: NortonMobile or Gen Digital).
  2. Launch the app—skip any intro/trial prompts.
  3. Sign in immediately: Use the same Norton account email/password tied to your Premiere sub. (Verify at faviconmy.norton.com first—check Subscriptions for open slots.)
  4. Activate: It should detect your sub, assign a slot, and enable full Premiere features (VPN, etc.). No charge occurs.
  5. If prompted for payment: Back out, log out/in, or clear app cache (Settings > Apps > Norton > Storage > Clear Cache). Avoid “Install” flows from Norton’s site that redirect to Play.

Test Tip: After sign-in, go to My Norton > Device Security in the app—your phone should list under protected devices.

It sounds like you used the Begin Subscription option when installing 360 on your mobile instead of just Sign In. To cancel that new subscription you have now started from the Google Play Store you can follow the instructions in this Norton Support Article.

Then uninstall the 360 from your mobile device, restart the device and then install 360 from the Play Store, but be sure you use the Sign In option during the install. After you sign into your Norton Account from there it should pick up your existing subscription.

FYI. For the mobile versions of 360, there is no difference between having a Premiere or Deluxe subscription. The only difference is the number of devices you can cover.

Thanks for the replies, all.

I had tried all of the suggestions offered above during multiple efforts to install 360 and not be charged for it. However, I did forget to mention another key item.

I found there was no way to install the app without being redirected to Google Play. But, when I tried to go back there to uninstall the app & cancel the charge, a message from Google displayed saying something to the effect of ‘the app could be uninstalled, but the charge would not be refunded - would remain in effect until the new subscription date expired’. In essence, it said ‘yes, you can uninstall the app, but you’re not going to get your money back’. That’s what prompted me to file (& win) the credit card dispute.

I was aware there’s no difference between Deluxe and Premiere other than the number of devices & some peripheral advantages with Premiere, but again, the basic problem was, I couldn’t get an install done without paying $130 for it, even though I had 3 unused slots in my Premiere account. And that was with close supervision of a Norton Support agent.

The Google Play Store is the only official way to download Norton Apps. That is not unusual. What you have to be aware of is that you just need to Sign in or Redeem a subscription during the installation process and not Start Subscription or Get Started. As you found, that second option is starting a new subscription from the Play Store. This image is from the iOS installation, but the Android install is similar or identical.

When you purchase from an app store, you have a limited time, usually 7 days, to cancel the new subscription. Those are the terms of the applicable mobile app store. Norton is not involved in that subscription process.

Hello @Toyman
Care to share your progress

All is well. I have 360 on my phone, and there have been no charges to put it there. I still have 2 open slots to use from 360 Premiere if needed.

This item should be considered closed.
