360 V 2.5.0.5 - Can not see restore file

This may have been answered in the past so sorry if it has, i have been using 360 from the beginning and have had no reall issues even when the backup files became protected. But now i have an issue where i have lost all my music on itunes and want to restore from the backup but restore no longer sees the file.

environment is

250gb Maxtor NAS

Dell C521 (250gb)

i have been backing up for quite a while and have recovered individual file before but as i can not see native files i cant even click and drag.

I have had Symantec Support even log on to my machine and try and got no where, does anyone have any ideas as i dont want to loose 50gb of music.

thanks in advance

Let me try to understand your problem.

You are running Norton 360 Version 2.

You have backed up files FROM C:\ drive on your dell TO the 250gb NAS.

The Restore Files function in N360 cannot find your backup set.

Is this correct?

yes, when i open 360 and go into restore files it does not see the backup on the NAS drive but if you go into manage restore you can see the NAS drive there so it is seeing it. also when you go into the drive via windows it shows the N360_BACKUP file and has nearly 200gb of files in it.

Allright.  When you open "Restore Files" function in N360 v2, it tries to find the last backup it knows about.  If this is incorrect, you can click the "change" button on the right side of the "Restore Now" screen.  This will cause it to search for backups on all drives on the system.  In order for your backup to show up on this list, your NAS drive will need to be mapped to a drive letter on your Dell.  You will need to map the drive so that the N360_BACKUP folder is in the root directory (X:\N360_BACKUP).

Give that a try and let us know how it goes!

Good luck,

-Joel

it is, the symantec support guy did that even after i did it. for some reason even though there is nearly 200gb of data in the folder restore see nothing.

Ok, it sounds like your catalog file has become corruptedThere is a utility that ships with Norton 360 v3 that can help youUpgrading to v3 is free.

Once you've upgraded, there is a tool Arestore.exe, in the N360 v3 install directory (C:\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\3.0.0.134\)

Copy Arestore.exe to the root directory on your NAS drive (along side the N30_BACKUP folder).  Then, from your N360 MUI resource directory (C:\Program Files\Norton 360\MUI\3.0.0.134\09\01\), copy the resource file Arestore.loc to the same NAS root directory with the Arestore.exe file.  Run Arestore.exe.

If it fails to find your backup set, you'll want to remove the corrupted catalog file.

To do this, go into N30_BACKUPThere should be a folder with a long, ugly alphanumeric nameGo into that folderInside should be lots of folders, as well as a file called backup.@dbThis is the catalog fileYou'll want to MOVE this file out of that directory (put it on your desktop for safekeeping.)

Once backup.@db has been removed, go back and try running Arestore.exe again from the NAS' root directory

Just a noteWithout a catalog file, this utility will have to examine each file in the backup set, one at a timeOn your 200gb set, this will take quite some time, especially across the networkI've never tried this with such a large set, but my 50gb set on a USB drive took almost an hour.

Good Luck!

hi

have done that and got an error message

'Unable to load resources. Please ensure ARestore.loc is in current directory.'

i have located ARestore.loc in C:\Program Files\Norton 360\MUI\3.0.0.135\09\01

i take it i just copy that file into the directory i put the exe file as well!!!

thanks

Oops!  Sorry I forgot about that.  You are correct. Please place Arestore.loc in the same directory as Arestore.exe.

worked perfect thanks, maybe some should tell the symantec online support people.
