360 V6 not working and can't use the removal tool

I am running a 64 bit windows XP SP3 computerI had version 5 of 360 until a couple of weeks agoI then couldn't see Norton in my taskbar (I noticed it when I went to run a scan to be sure I didn't get a virus from my wife's laptop).  I couldn't start the program at all, it acted like it was going to start, but wouldn'tI downloaded and ran the removal tool on 3/6/12, when I couldn't figure anything else out.    It upgraded my version to version 6 and seemingly fixed everythingAbout a week ago, I was not able to use Google chrome or log on to any HTTPS websitesI went to run a scan and Norton wasn't in my taskbar again, nor could I start it manually againHowever, I wasn't able to go to Norton's site to download the removal tool againI had saved the previous one I used on 3/6/12, but it says I need a newer version of the tool, but I can't access the site to downloadI have been at this for about a week and read many articles, but I haven't found any that mirror my issueHowever, I did download and run malware bytes and super anti spywareNeither helped, but both removed different thingsI think I do have the schost.exe virus, as every time I start up the computer, I have to stop that process, but that has been going on for well over a year nowI'm not sure what to do, but I need to be able to use my Norton and to access secure HTTPS sites, please helpThank you in advance!

Hi dstone20,

Windows XP 64-bit is not a supported operating system.  Can you confirm that your system is 64-bit and not 32-bit?

I believe so.  In properties of my computer, it says:

AMD Athlon (tm) 64 Processor

3700+

2.19 GHz, 960 MB of Ram

I have had Norton 360 for quite some time without any problems, as my latest one year membership is about to renew.  If it is not supported, I would just like to be able to remove it.  Under the security settings in the Control Panel, it says Norton reports the anti virus is active, but I can't start it or view it under programs.  However, I can't access the Norton site to download the latest removal tool.

The Athlon64 is backwards compatible with 32-bit x86.  See the following to determine which operating system you are using:
