Best bet is that link. So, some programs are hanging in memory? They could also be the reason shutdown takes forever. I know for a fact that Firefox 3 hangs in memory on Windows XP, but does not cause shutdown issues.
Yes indeed. Windows shutsdown properly only if i shutdown without opening and closing other programs (ie outlook). If i do open one of these programs, at shutdown i get the famouse "end now" screen for ccsvchst. Once I click to end, the ccsvchst program (N360) shuts down and then the rest of the shutting down process takes long to shut down.
I have not applied the link yet. I did notice last night, that the same problem happens on my daughter's computer. This is the computer i originally installed 360v2. So I guess, I'm not the only one to say its a Norton problem. On another forum, one user with the same problem, was given a free swap to Norton Internet Security. I guess that program is more stable. Could it be that 360 was more designed for Vista? Interesting question.
Thanks
I've been doing more digging regarding the slow shutdowns. I found a suggestion to use this microsoft download:
"User Profile Hive Cleanup Service "
I'm a little skeptical in trying it. Anyone know what this really does and is it advisable for my situation?
Thnaks
Hi BozoJB
Did you have a look at my previous thread here, some users have commented it has helped them.
Thanks
John
Hi Matt, On September 25th/08 I upgraded NIS 2007 to 360 v2, which was a 3rd license from my daughter’s computer to expire sometime in Dec/08.After installing this upgrade, i immediately began experiencing the same issues i’ve read on several posts on this forum. The v2 that was downloaded was sometime in September and I’ve run liveupdate several times as well, therefore i assume i have the latest version. To be specific, the problems I have are:1) The dreaded box for ccsvchost.exe “end now” appears. Once i click on this box it takes forever for windows to finally shutdown.2)The other annoying problem is that programs are still running in the task manager after they are closed. I’ve noticed this in office products and Photoshop. Haven’t had time to see others. Also, and not really sure if related to 360v2, my Roxio easy creator stopped working. Question: Has Norton resolved the issues with shutdowns and zombie preocesses? If not, do I apply this fix: LINK
Will this solve both issues?
I would appreciate confirmation from Matt and/or others ThanksJohn

Thank you Johna.
What is the difference between your suggested 3 steps, the one suggested by cgoldman (unregister bushell.dll), and the one in this link:
Also, if i want to try trial and error, in which sequence should I apply the suggested tweaks? Remember, my issue is ccsvchst popping up at shutdown to end the process, plus i have the issue of zombie processes in task manager.
Much appreciated. Thanks again
Try step 1 and see how you go. Get back with the results and we can go from there.
John
Edit: What version are you running, click 'Help and Support'> 'About'.
Thanks for the reaponse.
I am sure i ahve the latest version 2.4.04, however, i am not at home right now and will not be able to apply any of the suggestions until tomorrow.
Thanks
PS. Do you know what changes are made by the norton link: LINK
Thanks Johna
[edit: shortened link to resolve page width issues.]
As far as I know the same as in step 1. Let us know how you get on.
Hi,
I applied the first suggestion. This did nothing to repair either problem.
I then applied the regsvr32 /u bushell.dd fix.
After applying this fix, all is well with regards to shutdown and zombie processes. I am under the impression (in my case), that applying the regsvr32 alone would have resolved the issues.
I will start a new post for other issues affecting my PC after installing the 360v2 upgrade.
Thanks for your help.
Hi BozoJB
I was under the impression that you already had the latest version, that's why I asked you. If you were running a previous version then the fix you applied should indeed have done the trick.
Anyhow, glad it worked out for you..
Note: The version i used to install 360v2, was the one downloaded on the computer which upgraded from v1. That is, the pc having v1 was given a free upgrade to v2. This version was installed there and then i burned a copy of this download to install on my other PC which had NIS 2007.
Thanks
