A few weeks ago my Win7 computer was infected with the “United States Department of Justice virus”. I used the Norton Power Eraser tool to remove it. That seemed to fix it. More recently my computer is displaying “ A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed and lists the following file and location “C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Local\Temp\syburye\sdwustf\wow.dll” To see if the error would clear I rebooted my system. When the system came up I got a message from Norton Internet Security error 3048,3. At this point I ran ‘Intelligent Updater’ and then ‘Norton Power Eraser’. Norton Power Eraser found and removed a file “rikvm_c6f09094.sys” I rebooted and the “(DLL) initialization routine failed” message popped up again. Searching the forums this appears to be a Trojan backdoor infection. Other symptoms include my system booting VERY slowly. I take daily system backups so I then did a total restore of my ‘C’ drive to a point a day before I noticed the “(DLL) initialization routine failed” message. Following the restore I still get the ““(DLL) initialization routine failed” message. So, at this juncture I have two choices. I can run another restore to a point before I first uncounted the “United States Department of Justice virus”, or I can try to fix (remove or repair) the system as it sits now. What do you suggest?
