Hi

Good comments.

These are being made as we speak. But please keep in mind. This forum is still beta.

Another feature that would have really helped a few minutes ago, the ability to upload a file (I spent a load of time screen dumping etc. a problem). A picture is the same as a thousand words (or some such phrase)

Please don't forget my Next Unread Message button or a List only Unread messages filter which when you select an unread message shows all of the thread around it.

As more and more messages arrive here this will become more and more important to those who scan all messages.

There are a number of sticky threads I would create to assist user new to the site:

1) Where do I find? thread, no so important now but as the site grows will be increasingly more difficult to find what we want

2) What thread to use, or put another way, Policy on thread usage i.e. what can I use this thread for?

3) User suggestions for product enhancements

A few thoughts that may spark interest in others

Thanks for the feedback! I have a few questions about these recommendations:

1) What types of things should go here? Would this be similar to the tags at the very bottom of each board?

2) What types of things would you want to use the threads for? This site and its posts can be accessed without a login; it's all public.

3) We're working to expand to other products eventually, and these suggests are certainly welcomed within the product forum. Are you saying there should be a sticky thread about suggestions already made?

Thanks!

For a number of reasons, you can not upload files directly to the forum.  However there are a number of free web based imaging sharing services such as imageshack, photobucket, flickr.   Upload your images there, and then copy the 'direct' URL to your clipboard.   Finally when editing your message there is a icon on the tool bar (directly above the edit window) that looks like a picture of a tree (4 right of the smiley tool), Select this image tool and paste (ctrl-v) the url into the first box of the pop-up window you will get when you press the toolbar button.  Select the drop down for alignment and make a selection (I always use Top) and then adjust the Dimensions (if necessary).  When you click OK your image will be pulled into the message.

I will try to do a more detailed 'how to' sticky on this soon.

Near the top left corner of the page you will find a link named "My profile", first click that, then click the 'preferences' tab that will appear.

The default choices we have made are best for most novice users.   On that page you will find many advanced settings you can use customize your forum experience.  You can switch to threaded mode (default is linear).  There are also a number of settings available for each of the formats.    If you have questions, please feel free to PM me or start a new thread here in forum feedback.  The best thing  to do is play around with the various options to see what suits you best.  Try not to change too many of the defaults at once, unless you are sure what the results will be, that way you can see what each of the settings changes.

Be sure to click 'Save' button at the bottom of the section when making changes.

Tony,

1) The sorts of things that are difficult to categories into a particular product

2) I would like to use the product enhancement thread for items such as "Symantec creates a Snapshot utility", it would then be up to the community to vote on the acceptability/usability/interest. This could then form part of the market research for new/updated products

3) Not sure, maybe. What I had in mind for the top level stickies are similar to the Microsoft website (probably the biggest I have come across) it is a nightmare to find what you want however; someone has produced a "This is where to find" thread. It comes into it's own when products get integrated and as a newbie I am not sure should I look in this thread or that thread for the answer. It also helps the Moderators to ensure all like minded information is channeled into a single thread/set of threads. There are times when an update to a MS product will effect a number of your products. Each product may have different symptoms but the route cause is the same, channelling all the information into the same place will greatly enhance the user experience and assist the development/support team in their resolution

I apologise if that is a bit rambling but at the moment I do not have a specific about one of your products
