A Sad Farewell

I placed a message last week saying that Norton Ghost 15 slowed down/froze my computer. This problem has been going on for a few months. I found the cause last week when I rebuilt my computer. After installing Norton Ghost 15, it slowed down to the point where it took a minute to trash an icon. I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to completely remove Ghost and my computer worked fine. Today, I tried Norton Internet Security 2012, and my computer slowed down again. I uninstalled it, but it asked me to reboot, and I did, forgetting to use Uninstaller to remove all traces of Internet Security. The computer was still slow on reboot.

Since I had uninstalled Ghost, I tried to make an disk image using Windows 7. I thought that this was a good time to see if it worked. It stated that the computer was restored, but the computer would not boot. Fortunately, I had used Ghost, and Ghost restored my computer successfully from an image. (Thank you)

I am not writing this message to complain. I am just sad. I own Norton Ghost 15, Internet Security 2012, and Norton Online Backup, but I don't dare use any of them.

I have been told to try several things. 1. Install Ghost and Internet Security first, and then find out what is interfering with it. The thing wrong with this is that I spent about 3 days doing this the first time, and I don't want to do it again because of all the problems reinstalling many programs and their upgrades and fixing problems with my files (Access to Excel) that this causes. Also, I have the other programs because I want them. I don't want protection and backup. I want those programs to do their job without me knowing they are on my computer. 2. One person stated that my computer might be slowing down because of an overheating CPU. That might be right, but if it is, my computer will still slow down, and I will fix this problem in the future.

What do I want? 1. Is there a list of programs that can interfere with Norton products? 2. I have Windows 7 64 bit, i7 975, 12 gigs of memory. Is there anything wrong with that? 3. Can anyone recommend any substitutes. I have heard about all kinds of problems with Acronis. I guess I'll do disk images with Ghost and then uninstall it. I need an internet security suite. Any ideas?
