Sometimes it takes a video to explain to our children why sharing passwords, even with your BEST friend can be a bad idea. Take a look at this video and show it to a middle school child you love. Broken Friendship
The video shows a story of a young girl who shares her email password with her best friend. The friend gives the password to the clique of "cool" girls at school who launch a smear campaign against the first child. They use her own email address to send out embarassing, pasted together photos and sexy messages to the boys in the school. You can imagine what happens as a result.
While this video's story is fictional, I've heard the real life version too many times when I visit schools. Parents are heart-broken and unsure how to help their child. Sometimes, children even need to change schools in order to (as mentioned in the video) "start over."
So strange that so much pain could have been triggered by a shared password between friends.
