I'm about to install NIS 2009 on my son's computer (has Kaspersky 2009 but it has expired.) Want to do a good install, so have the following questions:
Computer: Running XP Prof., SP3, Kaspersky IS 2009, Norton Systemworks, (and may have had previous version of Norton IS that I removed.) Also has loaded Live Reg and Live update 1.80--part of Systemworks.
1. I will remove Kaspersky and Norton Systemworks (I don't use it anyhow.) Should I also use any removal tool(s) to completely remove these programs?
2. Should I use ccleaner also to clean out the registry and other areas?
3. Anything else I should do to ensure a good, clean install?
4. I also noted in another thread that some users are having problems with Norton 2010 showing up in the system tray after reboot on XP machines. If I install 2009 now, will it automatically ugrade to 2010 and install this latest update 17.5? It appears that this issue has not been resolved, and since this is an XP machine running SP3, I don't want to do the update until Norton has a fix found for these machines using this update.
5. Finally, I am going to have to set up some kind of Parental Controls software, or simply white list the few web sites I want my son to go to. Can I do this with NIS 2009? Is it a separate module, or included in the software?
6. I am also considering installing Cyber Patrol's Parental Control software on this machine. Any known conflicts with Norton IS 2009 or 2010?
I realize this is a lot for one email--just wanted to cover as much ground as possible before I go in and mess things up!
Thanks,
