My Norton Internet Security 2008 subscription expires in a month. Yup, you know what's coming, I've read the threads on here complaining about the intrusive reminder that can't be stopped, even though I have the automatic renewal service set.
Well, I email a polite but firmly worded (in my opinion) email to customer support this morning telling them that I thought this was terrible and likely to cause them to lose customers and that I was now going to research alternatives.
Well, they emailed me back a few hours later with what looked like a canned response and to choose "Remind me later". I responded to that, to saying that I couldn'tand that it kept bugging me. They then supplied me with a free 30 day key, as a workaround and that they were aware of the issue and that they would 'probably' be releasing a patch to change the behaviour. I thanked them and suggested that they consider allowing NIS 2008 users to upgrade to NIS 2010 for the same cost as this appeared to have its behaviour improved on that front.
Well, they confirmed that it did and (and here's the kicker) they have provided me with a free upgrade to NIS 2010 as a 'gesture of good will'. Well, it worked. Well done Norton / Symantec, the message must be getting through. In this case, at least, you have saved a customer from changing and retained him for at least another 13 months.
Congratulations, there should be more of it.
PS: I've just read this: "User's who have an active subscription to Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus 2006 and newer can update to the 2010 for FREE by visiting the Norton Update Center.", so maybe I didn't get treated too specially, but it's still a good news story so it stands in my book.
Regards,
Simon....
