1) ACCESS SECURITY SCAN HISTORY QUICKLYVNew to Norton 360 and while I can get to security history it is many mouse clicks away from the Main screen. Where are the history log files stored by Norton and are they readable in a text viewer? If so then I can create a desktop shortcut to that location.
Using 360 vresion 4 on Win 7 pro 64 bit OS.
2) VIRUS DEF UPDATE MULTI DAILY Default settings seem to only update virus defs once per day. When I used Kaspersky Internet Security I was able to schedule 4 updates per day. I follow safe computing principles but once per day for Norton seems way to vulnerable. How do you automatically force 360 to update more frequently? Where can you see in 360 what virus def file version is being used? In a thread a year ago to a different ? the following might be what I need??
The Intelligent Updater files for 32-bit Operating System and 64-bit Operating System are different. If you use the file for 32-bit OS in a 64- Operating System, you may get similar message. Please try to download and run the 20090827-002-v5i64.exe file for 64-bit platforms from the following link:
3) SECURITY HISTORY - FULL HISTORY is inaccurate/incomplete Main 360 screen claims for example that virus defiitions were updated at 9:39am HOWEVER in Full History there is no indication of a virus def update at that time - in fact over the last 4 days since installing I do not see any virus def update entry in any of the history reports.

Frustrated with 360: The Main screen is nice and uncluttered but at the expense of being able to easily get to important things for an intelligent user such as report history. Any suggestions/tips for a new user to setup 360 so that it actually behaves intelligently and offers good protection with only slight hit to computer performance for user who runs safe especially on the internet and does not download much except from sites that have a signed certificate? Thanks for cutting my learning curve.
Oh and the irony of 360: Nice warm fuzzy feeling after installation and coming to main screen - all green, all protected. Feel safe just exit!! Well looking a bit further I see that the virus defs were last updated 217 days earlier AND I had just downloaded the app from official Norton website. Give me a break Norton. End of my rant....
Full Virus Definitions are released one or more times per day. Smaller Pulse Updates generally are released every 10 to 15 minutes. Your program showed 217 days since the last update because when first installed, it does not have the latest definitions until LiveUpdate runs.
A) FYI: This is brand new laptop without any security previously installed.
B) Seems like virus defs are updated by 360 automatically > once per day as long as computer is connected to internet. I often unplug to avoid being tempted to waste time on internet. Will 360 automatically update defs shortly after internet cable is plugged back in? Would assume that it does so.
C) My point about virus defs being 217 out of date is that I had just downloaded app from Nortorn website, to pretend that you are a company looking out for my security and to sell something that is that out of date seems insane. Either you are a company like all others that sell anti-virus indicating the the internet is a war zone and you need us bec new threats appear hour to hour if not by the minute OR you admit that for those doing safe computing only a moderate level of paranoia is needed. 217 days being out of date is insane.
ORIG ISSUE of accessing security history quickly is still unsoved see 1) in OP, thanks for all the help.
Let me clarify my earlier post regarding downloaded versions of the installer. If you download the program using the Norton Download Manager the latest definitions are included along with the N360 installer. In your case, you either did not use the download manager, or the installation of the definitions failed, which would cause N360 to fall back on LiveUpdate to fetch the most current signatures. In most cases a downloaded N360 installation package should install the program with up to date defs, as you have suggested that it should.
I'm using Norton Internet Security 2011 so I'm not sure if this will apply to Norton 360 V4.
The Norton icon in the notification area (system tray) has an option to 'View Recent History' if you right-click on it. Please check to see if this option is available in your product as this is a quick way to access the History logs.
Elsewhere ... thx for suggestion; if someone can confirm this for 360 version 4 then I will activate sys tray icon (I deleted as all of those extra sys tray icons in time eat into computer resources and also are clutter in my mind). {Edit: Yes this does work so now it is 5 mouse clicks to get to see Scan History whereas before it was 7 clicks - some improvement so will live with it. Still don't know how to confirm what version of virus defs is being used but will trust that 360 is doing a good job of keeping things up to date. Thanks all for the help.}

And to beat a dead horese: To earlier post about Norton virus defs and being out of date - htx for additional info; Norton indicated it was making me use their download manager so I don't know what happened but I did not intentionally not use it. Norton acts li
ke it is so smart and so security conscious but allow download of something 217 days out of date and THEN upon installation indicates that all is well!!! Not your fault, but this is the kind of company software insanity that is just a bit much, but half to laugh about it all.

It is always a good idea to run live update when ever you install a new program. There are updates coming out quite often and the links on the Symantec site are usually updated when a new major version comes out. Antivirus definitions via pulse updates come out quite often. Some program updates only come thru the use of live update as can be seen from this thread by a Symantec Employee.
This thread is about how the latest version update was handled and how most updates are handled.
Please check Help & Support and hit about to make sure you have the latest version of the program which should be 4.3.0.5. If you don't keep your computer on all the time so that it can get the updates when they come out, then it's a good idea to run live update at least once a day. This is only a suggestion to help keep your product up to date.
N360 was designed for people who don't want to make many tweaks to their computers for security, so much of the program runs on its own if the computer is on.
I mentioned about previous security programs because even on new computers, many come preloaded with a trial version of a security program and we didn't know if the computer was new or old or previously used. Thanks.

I have 4.3.0.5; thx for clear explanations. Yes it seems that 360 is designed for people who want to install and forget it. I am not a big tweaker, but do like to have easy access to at least some things. I have things scheduled via 360 for daily live update and full scan etc. at 2am but will remember that if I turn laptop off or disconnect from internet will run live update when I plug back in. Have only had one serious virus/malware infestation in last 8 years so I expect that 360 will continue to take care of me. Again thanks for all of the help on this forum for a fairly basic and simple topic - at least things are working.
You can also access the full antivirus definitions by using the Intelligent Updater if the need arises. You have to pick the correct version to get according to product name and version and whether 32 or 64 bit.. The 64 bit version is listed further down on the page.

Same product caveat as mentioned above.
If you are looking for the Virus Definitions Date, then open the 'Network Security Map' (using an Administrator account) and click on the 'Details' link shown on the right-hand side of the 'Category' section of the 'Device' that represents your computer. This will open the 'Device Details' dialog box that will show you the latest 'Virus Definitions Date' of the definitions currently installed on your computer.
