I have an external USB HDD on which I plan to store and recover backups made with Norton Ghost 15. I have created TrueCrypt encrypted partitions on the HDD and stored Norton Ghost recovery points on one of the partitions (which has NTFS filesystem) on this HDD.
I ran the "Driver Validation Tool" and it failed, so I started the wizard to generate a custom "Symantec Recovery Disc". After noting that the driver for the SATA PCI card was to be included in the custom disc, I started thinking about my TrueCrypt encrypted external HDD, and that the recovery environment of course also needs to be able to mount and access the TrueCrypt partitions in order to work.
So, I wonder how to solve this problem:
1) Can one include whatever is needed to be able to access the TrueCrypt partitions on the custom recovery disc?
or
2) Would it have to be done with burning some other "recovery environment" that has access to TrueCrypt, and then somehow launch the Symantec Recovery Disc tools after the TrueCrypt partitions are mounted (or similar) ?
or
3) The only other solution I can think of is to keep one HDD/partition on the PC unencrypted (let's call this partition "X"), and if I need to use the "Symantec Recovery Disc", first boot of a CD/DVD disc that contains an OS that has TrueCrypt on it (either Linux or Windows), then mount the TrueCrypt partition on the external USB HDD (let's call this partition "Y"), then when mounted transfer the Norton recovery points that I need to have access to for recovery to partition X (which then would make the recovery points available unencrypted), then reboot with the Symantec Recovery Disc and continue as usual...
I guess approach 3 should work no? I would however prefer to have everything on one CD/DVD disc that takes care of all of it...
What are your thoughts?
Thank you in advance.
