Hi MJP

SymAData.dll is version 2,7,0,1

SymAData.dll is version2,9,0,1

In my add-ons that do not require permission there is active data info class, control installer class both SymAData.dll "not verified"I have 2 other controller class that are OK.

symdlmgr.dll is version 7,0,1,69 it is found in my downloaded activeX controls and add-ons that have been used by IE when I looked at the properties for this in the dependency there was no file name and under size(bytes) it said damaged twice?

sorry don't know what a PM is? For what its worth there are sun java not verified and the Microsoft not verified are free threaded XML Dom document 4.0,XML HTTP 4.0,XML schema cache 4.0 I have these in 3.0 and 6.0 and they seem OK as in no "not verified" next to them.I would appreciate an explanation as I really am not techy but the not verifieds worry me.

Thanks Mo

Hi

What does" not verified" mean when it is next to Symantec download manager symdlmgr.dll

Active x SymAData.dll

there is also a few Microsoft activeXs with not verified next to them.I sort of understand what a add-on is but would not mind some clarification on this.thanks for your help in advance.

cheers Mo

PM is a personal message.

Hi mo-

Code signing is a way to add some information to software files that can be used to ensure the software doesn't get altered from its original form and to also provide some identifying information about the publisher.

Microsoft has more techy information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537361.aspx

There is nothing "broken" when IE shows "not verified" for these extensions - it's just alerting you that they are unsigned.

I sent you a PM asking for more information about your system configuration (look for the message link in the upper right corner) so I can try to find more information confirming that our Symantec download manager DLLs are unsigned (and to see if we can replace them with signed DLLs).

Thanks,

Hi MJP

Was the information I sent any good?

Cheers Mo:smileyindifferent:

Hi Mo-

I'm still looking for information on those binaries.  Those files are outside my area of expertise, so I'm trying to locate someone with more working knowledge.

Thanks

Thanks MJP

I will wait, appreciate your time on this.

Regards Mo

I received confirmation that an unsigned version of the control SymAData.dll (version 2.9.0.1) has been distributed from the Symantec website as part of the Support Automation tools.  It should be updated in the future with a signed version but I can't provide a time estimate for the change.

I'm still finding out information about symdlmgr.dll.

Thanks MJP

Great detective work, hope they give you a bonus:smileyvery-happy:

I thought it was an easy queston so thanks for your thorough approach.

Cheers Mo

It means those library files were not digitally signed and IE has chosen to show them that way.

I'm not sure at the moment why those particular Symantec DLL's were not signed.

If you can locate these files on your system, can you send me a PM with their location and their file properties (i.e. the stuff you see when you right-click on the file in Explorer and choose "Properties", then the "Version" tab).
