Usually, when I right-click a file or folder I get a option to Add to or exclude from backup. 2 days ago, this option became disabled. They are still there, but I can't click them. Also, the backup status indicators have disappeared. I've reinstalled N360 twice, which does resolve the issue until I run LiveUpdate, then the isue returns. I've also tried re-registering BuShell.dll, which registers successfully but does not resolve the issue. I'm not experiening any zombie processes and have therefore not employeed the workaround.
I also have the same problem. Tech support after working on it for about 40 minutes said that they would refer my problem and that I would receive a patch via LiveUpdate to correct this problem.
The only thing is they gave no indication of how long it would take.
If yes, do you both having the issue since the 2.5 update is on your PC? If yes, then we found the cause, and have to wait for an update. If no, you should check some symantec logs, what changed after the bug came.
Glad I found this thread, as it is the reason that I joined. I have an identical problem and am very interested in seeing it resolved. With no way to verify that a specific file or folder is in fact present on the backup media (since it's encrypted, which is another issue (why isn't this an option?)) the icon overlay would be nice.
How will we know when "the fix is in?" Will an update run automatically and magically it fixes itself or will there be something more tangible than that?
Kind of a twist on the same... I have an HP with a C, D, and E drives. C drive has all my windows stuff, my docs, my pics, etc... That's the drive I want to back up. E has a ton of files that I do not want to back up.
I cannot get the Backup to exclude the E drive. In quick backup it tells me that it will only backup 6K files (11 Gb) and then tries to backup 17K files and 80+ Gb. Yet when I try and find all the extra stuff I can't find it.
In Full backup I can see where it is using drive E but to exclude all that data would mean de-selecting every file... which would be a huge pain in the butt not to mention time consuming. So I tried the Explorer right click and go to Norton 360 and Exclude from backup... Its greyed out...
I uninstalled and re-installed... To my joy I now had those options in Explorer.... then I tried to back up again and low and it started with the 17K files on E allll over again and now the options in Explorer are greyed out again...
The help and support link even specifically says that the full backup and the quick backup maintain separate lists and yet this keeps happening...
I was just prompted to install an update (which I did) and after installing it the backup options are no longer disabled. I haven't had a chance to test it yet because I'm about to it install the V3.0 beta but it looks like Norton have finally fixed it...Maybe...I hope.
I just installed the same update with the same result. Great! But where are the backup status indicators? I like the idea of taking a quick look in explorer and seeing what’s covered and what’s not. Since the backup files are encrypted, this is the only way to know. Or at least you’ll think you know. I really wish they would do away with the encryption for a local backup.
I did not do anything, but the 'Add to backup' and 'Exclude from backup' options are visible now.ce
but, once I add or exclude a folder, next time I see the "add to backup" "Exclude from backup", none of them is shown as selected already. It does not show if the file/folder is already added to backup or excluded from backup.
By the way, is it expected to show the current added or excluded status?
Also, the files/folders added/excluded as above (windows explorer shell option) are not reflected under the "manage back-up" screen.
I would not want to install Norton 360 V3.0 Beta since Symantec has put the disclaimer (which any beta product comes with) and do not want to take any risk on a laptop that I use regulalry for important work.
