Yesterday, while multitasking on two computers (plus making some edits in the Norton Home Network Map), I partially lost my internet connection; I could hit some websites, but others like my homepage would just hang, trying to load.
I started with the usual routine: Unplug the cable modem, unplug the router, restart the computers, etc. I even turned off antiphishing just to check.
I tried that twice and then called my ISP. Unfortunately the wait on hold was too long so I hung up and did more investigating.
When I opened the Recent History in NIS 2009 I saw a entry that my IP address had disappeared!
So, I went to Control Panel > Network Connections. The LAN initially looked okay, but I right clicked on it to perform a repair and within 30 seconds it was fixed and I was back in business.
Due to my lack of touchpad dexterity on the laptop, I believe I caused an IP conflict while editing the Home Network Map, but the information in the NIS history was an added bonus that I didn't realize could be so helpful.
Granted, I would have solved this at some point, but having the entry in NIS History pointed me in the right direction for a quick solution.
Well Done Norton!
