Adding Ad blocking feature - especially streaming or flash ads

I remember the Ad and Pop-up blocking feature in NIS 2006 and earlier versions which was removed later. I feel that the Ad blocking feature is really necessary. The forms of advertisements have been changed since then. Nowadays, we see Web pages full of flash and streaming ads embedded within a Web page taking up unnecessary network bandwidth and slowing down the browsing. This is more common for news sites. -Vinod

Hello

I think it would be important to add this feature again even though many browsers have the feature already. Some malware can be transmitted by the ads also especially when some flash malware can be injected into it without the owner of the website even being aware of it.

Yeah. I agree with floplot’s view. Although this feature is inbuilt in many browsers, i found it ineffective in blocking ads. -Vinod

Yes, I have my ad blocker enabled. It says it has blocked the ad, but 2 seconds later, it has been shown despite the notice saying it has blocked it.

I disagree to add ad blocking. I found with nis06 ad blocker blocks necessary features of a website and its very hard to exclude them. I think you should use black listing known ads rather than white listing. Did you know internet explorer have an ad blocker. There is a thread about it in the tech outlook section.

It is the IE 8 ad blocker that doesn't block the ads very well.

Yeah and the nis06 ad and popup blocker worked a little too well, blocking almost all ads and popups without warning. This has sometimes left me wondering where’s the page new I’ve just opened up

It would be very interesting this, use the Norton Ad Blocking with InPrivate filtering IE8.

I agree! Sometimes an ad can lead to a pathway of a new malware or trojan viruses.

Great idea.

The attempts by other developers at ad blocking for IE 9 are either not particularly effective or not user friendly.

For example, the Quero Toolbar wastes screen space and is ugly.

Simple Adblock is not free any more and it uses an icon in the status bar to toggle ad blocking on/off for sites where  you need the ads. This requires you to re-enable the IE Status bar which is off by default in IE9 to free up screen space, so it sort of defeats the purpose.

If NIS had ad blocking, with a toggle button added to the Norton Toolbar to disable ad blocking for specific sites, it would make IE 9 almost perfect.

Yoda's ad blocking toggle button is a great idea and would be so simple for the average user.

I use Hotmail a lot and find the pop-up ads on the right hand side of the inbox window extremely annoying, especially when the drop-down list to my other hotmail accounts is almost blocked out by the ads.  This is in spite of having the IE8 pop-up blocker turned on.
