Admin rights for making changes in Norton?

Norton 360  is installed on a Windows10 system. There are two users: a local user and an admin account. On the local user account Norton 360 is working, on the admin account it is also installed, but apparently not active. The Norton window opens but I cannot click on anything. I thought the Norton licence is for a computer, not for a user.

I would like to disable Norton Antispam (in Outlook on my user account), because it  doesn’t work properly. I can disable it in Outlook, but the next time I open Outlook it is there again. If I want to disable it directly in Norton 360 I am told that I must have administrator rights. So then I right-click Norton 360 and open it with administrator rights, but no chance there either: the same message pops up.

This is the second time I have trouble with this admin rights thing. The last time I had to deactivate auto-protect in order to install some other software. This was not possible and ended with  deinstalling Norton 360 for one day.

But this cannot be the solution.  Is there a solution? Thanks a lot for any help!

You did not have to reinstall your Norton from the Admin Windows account. You would have had access to the full settings just by signing into your Windows account.

Christiane:

Thanks a lot. I uninstalled reinstalled Norton 360 from the admin account. Now everything is working fine on both accounts.

Not sure what's what with your W10 machine.  Your description sounds backwards.
Norton 360 settings are fully functional when I'm logged in with an Administrator user account.

Christiane:
So then I right-click Norton 360 and open it with administrator rights,

~ right click Norton 360 "Run as administrator" does not satisfy Norton:

You need to log in to your computer with an Administrator user account to change the product settings.

Important pointers:

  • You need to log in to your computer with an Administrator user account to change the product settings.
  • For Standard user accounts, some of the settings may appear disabled (grayed out).
  • If you are an administrator, keep in mind that the changes that you make apply to all users who use the computer.

Auto-Protect may be grayed out after Norton repairs a threat.

Note: clearing grayed status, by my experience, may sometimes be stubborn
