"Email Passwords Updated
As per Norton Security recommendations web hosts should reset Email passwords at least once every 12 months.
We follow these recommendations and changed your password to a random string. You can change this password to anything else by going to “CPanel” → “Manage Email Accounts” → “Change Password” (do not use your old password)."
Wondering why Outlook couldn’t retrieve email from our website or send email for two days, I decided to take a look and found the above message when logging into the site. Now, I am easy going and if things go wrong I am not the type that makes a big fuss about it.
Still, here I thought that is a bit over the top. Because my web host got advice from Norton they decided to change for 10 email accounts the password (all installed the same day, therefore all passwords had been changed the same day; 10 people wondering when the email would be restored). It would have been nice if Norton would have advised web hosts too, that it would be a good idea for them to inform the clients/customers about it too. We had email accounts off in the past but that was due to technical problems and the downtime usually only had a duration of a day maximum.
However, there is always a chance that people (hackers with criminal intend or the ‘boys that hunt for terrorists’) hack into your account and that only a solid encryption before sending your email ensures that it stays private. We actually liked our passwords and we are sure that our encryption could not be broken, even in case of someone getting into our mail. We would have told our host to leave the passwords and get on with life instead of making it difficult for us.
