The use of “signatures” in the forums.
This note is to try and help users understand the use of “Signatures” in the new forums.
Creating a signature.
Select the “Account” button from the top right hand of the scree and then select the “Edit” pane. If you scroll down to the box marked “Personal Information” and click on the arrow to the left, the box will open and show a lot of fields into which you may, or may not (it is up to you), put details about yourself, that other users may then see. Towards the bottom and just above the box for “Biography” is one for “User Signature”. Any text entered in this box will become associated with all posts you make in the forums.
You need to be aware that it may not be seen by other users (see “Viewing Signatures” below), and that what is seen will always be the current contents of your “User Signature” box. So if you made a post last month when your signature was “I think Windows 8 is great!” that will have been what could be seen then, but if you have now changed to think that “Apple are the best!”, looking back at your old post will now say “Apple are the best!”.
Before the contents of the “User Signature” box take effect you need to click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the screen.
Viewing Signatures.
Below the “Personal Information” box (under IM screen names and Privacy) is “Preferences”. If you click on the arrow next to that, the drop down will reveal a check box for “View Signatures In Posts”. If this box is ticked you will see any signatures that users have chosen to create, at the end of their posts. If you leave this box blank then you will not see their signatures whatever they have put. Again you will need to select “Save” before any changes to this check box are implemented.
