Hi, thanks for the reply. What I mean is that it looks like N360 stops processing and when the applications start they cannot connect. I thought it could be a firewall-related problem. But applying the workaround fixes this. I will run the autoruns utility and tell you what I find. Thanks!
Ok I understand. You see there is I believe a firewall issue as well in Norton 360 but it is not related to programs not opening.
SekharB wrote:Well I guess its not just Corel Paint Shop Pro thats hanging, same thing happened to me with Ashampoo Burning Studio 8.
The workaround, however, did do the job though.
But I wonder, exactly what fucntionality will I lose by disabling the Bushell.dll extension? What will be affected by this workaround?
It is correct the problem does arise with Ashampoo Burning Studio 8.04,
The Startup Splash screen appears then disappears and "burningstudio.exe" is in the Task Manager. When opening N360v3 and clicking "settings" it can crash N360v3.

..and I presume the workaround works for this app?
The user that stated about Ashampoo said that the work around worked,
I didn't try that, I just uninstalled my Nero 8 HD, upgrading to Nero 9 so installed Burning Rom to see if the problem does exist with it and it does.
It's now uninstalled, back to my Nero Suite. If I had Ashampoo I am sure I would have picked up on it during beta times.

I've found the problematic application using the suggested tool. It's DAEMON Tools v. 3.10.1, which is automatically started at logon. The good news is that I've upgraded to the latest v. 3.10.3 and it doesn't cause the issue anymore, so I can keep buShell.dll registered. Thanks a lot for the help.
However, I've just found an other issue that seems related to buShell (please tell me If this is not the right place for this).
I've backed up some data on an external USB drive and the backup was fine. Then I opened the Norton Backup Drive virtual device and navigated down to the backed up data. Suddenly I got an error saying that the external drive was not accessible anymore (but it was, I could access it fine from Explorer) and then the Symantec Service Framework crashed. I tried to restart N360 from the Windows menu a couple of times without success and then finally the N360 icon reappeared in the icon tray. Now I cannot access anymore any of the backup sets from the Norton Backup Drive, when I try I get an error popup with just the word 'error' inside, no other message.
I'm not familiar with this error and if you have search the forum and not found it posted elsewhere it is worth creating a new thread.
What is not clear to me is whether you have rebooted and tried again. ie dont run DAEMON and try to backup and access
This happened after having installed the new version of DAEMON abd rebooted. But then I rebooted again and until now I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, the virtual drive seems to work well. Maybe it was indeed an issue with the USB drive, from which N360 could not recover gracefully. If I see it again, I will open a new thread.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Glad its gone for the moment.
We are currently working on and testing the patch for the issue with programs starting. I will continue to add programs to the list of conflicts as we see them.

Sounds good thank you for the update.
I just installed Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 and I have Norton 360 V3. I cannot start the Corel program. I have read about the temp fix and am concerned it will affect my MS Outlook that I use many times a day. One reply alluded to that. What will be the other problems if I apply the temp fix? Thanks!

I cannot get the command to work. Does it have to have spaces and caps and do I hit enter between the lines? Also in your comment about losing back-up do you mean to say that PSPP will "now" instead of "not" work? Thanks!

1. The disabling of bushell.dll will not affect Outlook or any other programs. It will mean that you cannot in Explorer select a folder or file to backup using Norton 360. So what you loose is some backup functionality in Norton 360 v3.
2. You should reboot your computer into Safe mode before you attempt to workaround
3. Next you open a dos command window; in the run command type cmd and hit enter
4. next you change directory to the location of bushell.dll (if in doubt you can always use search command to find bushell.dll)
5. so if you enter cd "\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\3.0.0.134" it is not case sensitive. You have to enter the "enter" key after the line
if you have problem just enter cd program files, Then change to norton 360 i.e. cd norton 360 etc.
6. when you enter the regsrv32 /u bushell.dll, again you must hit the enter key for it to process.
7. If you are successful you enter "exit" (no quotes) to exit the cmd window.
I hope the above helps. Yes "not" should be "now" but I cannot edit the original msg.
Thanks
cgoldman,

hrguy1,
At this point you may have build 135 installed as we released it. Can you try replacing the command with: cd "\program files\norton 360\engine\3.0.0.135"
Thanks,
Mike
According to my info under the "about" area I have 134.
HRguy1
hrguy1,
You must be running 64 bit windows. You can type the following:
cd "\program files (x86)\Norton 360\Engine64\3.0.0.134"
Thanks,
Mike

I tried 135 and it did the same thing as my previous example. IT seems I am so close to getting to use Corel but just can't quite get there! Any thoughts?
