Hi,
I am trying to implement the workaround so I can use Corel Paint Shop Pro. I have Norton 360 version 3.0.0.135
So far I have been able to change the directory as instructed using: cd “\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\3.0.0.135” with the quotes.
Next I try to unregister the dll by typing: regsvr32 /u buShell.dll
However, it says: regsrv32 is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
This thread of messages has spelt regsrv32 and regsvr32 so I have tried both. I have also tried it with and without a space after regsrv32 and before the forward slash. I have also tried it with and without a capital S in bushell / bushell as both are listed here.
However, I get the same message in response for all attempts.
This is a new Norton product that I downloaded last night while in the middle of some urgent photo editing. I had no idea I would be unable to use Corel today. Can anyone help?
Thank you.
Hi Josie -
Please make sure that you have used the correct command:
regsvr32
The message that you copied into the message says regsrv32 (notice the srv instead of svr).
In addition make sure that you are running the command as an administrator.
To run the command prompt as an Administrator:
Go to the Start menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
Make sure when you click the menu item you right click it and then select Run as administrator.
The command prompt window now should be an administrator so you should be able to change directory and run regsvr32 from there.
Thanks.
John
Hello John,
Thanks.
Ok, running it as an administrator with regsvr32 seems to make a difference: I got a different error message this time. (I had been trying both the regsvr32 and regsvr32 options since both had been given previously)
It now says:
“The module “bushell.dll” failed to load
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary of dependent .DLL files
The specified module could not be found"
IS there anything I can try now? Thank you for answering so fast.
Hi Josie -
Are you by chance running a 64 bit version of Vista?
If so you need to go to the Engine64 directory instead of the Engine directory (the rest of the path should be identical).
If not could you please run the command: "dir"
in the directory where you would run regsvr32 and paste the results here?
Thanks.
John
360 v3 .0.0.135 has the same problem
I also suspect that some of the Roxio programs thatcome with Creator are influenced. I know my system now tries to load CinePlayer is I happen to browse a folder that has a movie, as if the program were never installed. Ther are likely other programs affected.
In my case, everything was fine under version 2 and I upgraded to 3 (subscription). Both of my machines began freezing up (the Vista 32 and the XP) The XP less so - as a restart seemed so far to make problems go away until I happen to try to run some program affected.
The issue to me was that there was no warning given that installing V 3 was going to result in my needing to disable certain programs until a patch comes out. I would like to know what other programs are going to freeze up the machine when I run them. So - what other programs do I need to set aside until a patch is available? Is there a list somewhere?
For all those complaining about 360 v3 - I have to tell you - this new update has been reporting blocking of several port attacks. I had no idea I was so frequently under attack. To me that nakes all the additional protection worth while even if I have to trash some other old favorite programs. Maybe it is Corel who should be doing the patch, not Norton. It is Corel that seems to have made their program so it wants to invade your privacy after all.
One other affect the PSP program / 360 v3 combo results in is disabling right click in explorer, freezing.. etc. I have the Adobe CS3 suite of programs as well and so for now use those without an issue so far.

The Affected programs are reported in this thread.
Hi,I tried this process again. It seems that my removal of Norton Tamper Protection had expired after its allocated 15 minutes. So I re-did this process with it newly turned off. It worked and I can now open Corel. Thanks so much for the administrator tip - which seemed to make the difference - and the general support. Josie

OK, a permanent fix will be along shortly. So keep posted to this forum. Meanwhile, I worry if you were trying to do this in normal mode instead of "safe" mode.
cgoldman,
I believe you asked the question on this or the other thread about if users will need to re-register the dll after the patch. The answer is yes. It will be noted in the KB article.
Thanks,
Mike
OK Understood.
OK - just a note that definitely Roxio (Sonic) Cineplayer is also affected. I browsed around the net and found others that have found the same issue although so far they only connected the fact the program no longer worked after the 360 Install and were complaining on the Roxio threads. I had not seen that program added to this thread as also being affected.
That one definitely a pain as in my case is installed with Roxio Creator 2009 and so far I can't find a way to unistall that components without unistalling the entire package. So I have to deal with everything freezing or trying to reinstall whenever I browse a folder with a movie file (cineplayer wants to open but can't - does the same thing as PSP did - is shown as open in task manager, etc. etc).
I imagine I will find a number of other programs with the same issue

Thanks for the advice. I do hope you are using the workaround in the meantime.

I resolved the issue for the Roxio (Sonic) Cineplayer. Roxio uses the .net framework. Apparently something was changed and I found a way to reload the program (it came as part of Roxio Creator 2009). First I uncompressed the install disk (exe) to a folder. Then I found that if I went to a movie folder where the program wanted to reinstall I could simply let it first tell me it could not find the CP.msi needed to reinstall, and then browsed to that folder to find the file - and it loaded and now works.
I do feel the problem came after the 360 v3 install - but can not say the installation was the issue. Reason is I did the registry clean up after that - which may have changed something. (You may want to later include a registry backup utility so the changes can be undone - better yet some way of saying NO to some of the changes it wants to make)
Just wanted to let you know this one was resolved. But the PSP isn't - and I am simply waiting for the patch for that - so will hope the announcement for that is made hear or there is an update from the program itself. I have the adobe CS3 suite of programs I can use until then as they work fine.
This appears to have going on for sometime. I just upgaded my Corel Paint Shop Program and not one will work. When will this issue be fixed

Why did you not apply the workaround?
I dont know when, I have not been asked to test the fix, and I agree it is overdue now. Another fix came out for NIS which was reported much later and in some ways was more difficult to resolve, so I really do not know the answer to your question.
Is there any other way around this, like a norton download fix patch. because I really dont want to disable the DLL or go through all this trouble...
I have this problem too and i use windows xp sp3.
the paint program shows in task manager but does not "load up"
I also think its been happening before norton 360 version 3...

Dah! you can wait for the download fix path which is currently being tested. Based on past experience, this means the patch could out tomorrow or perhaps early next week.
There should not have been a problem prior to version3 , if you were running version 2 and were uptodate. There was a problem in early release of version 2 which was fixed.
Hope it does come out quick... kinda behind on graphics work and some friends waiting for a logo....
I also just emailed the guy asking if I can test it out and see if it will help my problem since most of the people are vista users and i have xp, dont know if anyone else is still xp... Never hurts to try :)
