Again No quick scans after virus def updates

The power source that the Norton Task uses.

You can specify the type of power source that each of the Norton Tasks uses. Use the Configure link that is available next to the power source icon to configure the power source for the Norton Tasks.

Regards,

In my case my machine is a desktop, power cord plugged into wall outlet

Now the mouse situation is interesting
For some reason wife has a second mouse connected. Something about not being able to get to the back of the PC to disconnect one
However it seems like this has been in ace over a month
But I’m wondering if maybe something is hitting it or something. It’s connected but place in a desk drawer

Hello

Again today, the idle quick scan didn't run. My computer was definitely idle. No one was home.... This is a desktop hardwired. Mouse is a wired one and have no problems with my mouse. I have a Fios connection 75/35 I think it is. This is only a recent thing as far as I know and nothing has changed with my configuration. I got this computer last Aug.. I ran my own quick scan when I got home...Before I left, I sat here and watched the computer go into the idle state since it only takes a minute to get there. Nothing happened as far as a scan...The early morning one scans---that one is in the middle of the nite while I am sleeping. The one that comes at night also runs ok. If I am playing my online game, it waits for me to finish playing and then runs. Sometimes that morning or early afternoon one will run, other days not. I do know that on the weekends, there are less scans and less automatic antivirus definitions. I guess I will have to run my own scan if the automatic one doesn't run.

Which raises this question for me
I’m getting the virus def updates and other updates so that works
Now I also run a scheduled full system scan daily in the early early morning hours
So how “dangerous” is it that the quick scans don’t run after virus def updates?

Hi Calls,

In your post/Message #11  "I'm thinking my issue has to do with my PC not going into idle time. It was fine until 4/18 but since then I show no idle time in my NIS performance graph".

If you don't fix this issue the automatic quick scans won't run...

In your post/Message #23

"Now the mouse situation is interesting

Did you try disconnecting that second mouse to see if the computer goes idle, at least to exclude it as the possible cause of the issue?

I’m not home at this time, but that will be my first option when I get home to see if that’s the culprit
Like I say it’s been connected for the last month and for the last two weeks no problem

Hi ,Calls. If you're running a daily full scan, then I wouldn't worry about the quick scan situation.

You're more than covered with Pulse Updates and Nortons heuristic's, in between scan times.

Well let me update you on what is what
I go home and I find the extra mouse is sitting in a draw bottom side down (still connected to the PC )
It’s a process to get back to the back end of the PC tower. So just to see if the extra mouse is the problem, I turn it over bottom side up
I go back and check mt NIS logs to see if any quick scans ran
We’ll one did and it was shortly after I flipped the mouse
This morning I checked the logs and see two Moore scans ran, one about 11pm and another around 5:30 am
So it had to be the extra mouse causing problems with the PC not going idle

Now I do have a question about removing the 2nd mouse
It’s plugged into the back of the PC where the mouse “port” is
Can I just unplug it or do I need to do some type of disconnecting process?
In fact the good mouse is connected to a port in the front side of the PC
Can I just unug the one not using from the back port and plug the good one in instead?
Mainly I’m wondering if it’s a simple unplug one and then plug in the other, or us there some kind of uninstall process

Hi Calls,

I successfully found that it was mouse related  your issue.

As to your last question, usually you can unplug the mouse unless in taskbar there is an icon pointing to "safely remove hardware".

If it's the case, you should right click on the icon in the taskbar, remove the mouse then unplug.

If it's not the case just unplug it.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

If I use safely remove hardware, now I’m not sure which mouse to disconnect. I mean how to identify the mouse I want to disconnect : (

You could shut down your system and unplug the old mouse.

" If I use safely remove hardware, now I'm not sure which mouse to disconnect. I mean how to identify the mouse I want to disconnect : ("

There is info about which device safely remove hardware will remove.

Match the info with the mouse you want to turn off.

Regards,

Just unplug it.

You don't need to use "safely remove hardware" for a mouse.  It's only there for hard drives and flash drives.

Hi Laura,

You missed the whole point!

Of course other members should not be forgotten, and as you can see OP has chosen your post as a solution.( as expected).

I intentionally wrote this just to check something and it did work!

I will make sure to completely ignore similar threads in the future for obvious reasons...

Cheers!

Actually I did not choose a solution so not sure how that was done
I would have chosen apostolic because he brought up the mouse issue first
Although I very much appreciate rainbows contribution

Actually Laura brought up the mouse issue first not me, here:

1. Dumb question: is your mouse working properly? No even slight movements at all?

Hi Laura,

A:  You missed the whole point!

R:  Did I? I'd be grateful If you decided to explain it to me.

Hi Calls,

I don't know what's happened... however you - being the OP -  can quickly fix it:

Go to the post marked as Solution, click on Options at the top right, select "Not the solution".

Hope it helps.
