An error has occurred while receiving data from Norton Online Family

I had to deinstall the software several months ago because it lost communications with the account.  I have since reinstalled it and keep getting this error.  I have deinstalled it again with the same error upon reinstallation.  I have turned off Norton 360 firewall/virus still with no success.

I have also checked all user accounts and all are enabled.  The installation is going on a Dell laptop with Windows 7.  I know the account is good because I just installed Norton Online Family on my child's iPhone and that is working just fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi egw,

Are you able to uninstall Norton Safety Minder from the PC successfully?  When do you get the error exactly, during uninstalling Norton Safety Minder?

Please try to uninstall Norton Safety Minder first by going to Start/All Programs/Norton Safety Minder/Uninstall Norton Safety Minder.  You need to have the email and password for the account to be able to uninstall the program.

Please make sure the time and the year are set up correctly at Start/Settings/Control Panel/Date and Time on the PC.

Thanks,

Katie

I'm getting the same message - have uninstalled and reinstalled three times - message is when I attempt to sign into NOF to continue setting up my account. I have my child's information setup but cannot continue the setup process to link her NOF name to the computer.

I am the administrator of the computer and when the error comes is during the installation when it tries to talk to the Norton Online Family servers.  It asks me my email address and I give the one I have on the server and then I get the error.  I have tried connecting the computer to the network wired and wireless.  No difference.

Sometimes it does talk to the server and I get asked for my password and again I will get the same error.

The time and date are good.  And I can ping out to the rest of the world with no dropped packets or errors.

I am having the exact same issue.   Have uninstalled, reinstalled several times with no luck.

I have even put in the incorrect password and the system acknowledges that the passwords don't match.  Now that tells me that there is communications with the server but something must be amiss with the authentication or verification system.

I also have changed passwords on the account with the same results.

Hi Briank, Egw and roarty,

Are you able to log onto your Norton Online Family account at https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/loginStart.fs?

What error message do you get if you are not able to login?

Thanks,

Katie

Yes this is no problem and I have been able to log in on the account through the iPhone app also… This has all been checked.

egw,

I uninsttaled and reinstalled Norton Safety Minder and it worked for me too.

Please try the following to see it helps.  If not, please send me a private message via the forum, so we can check into your account.

To uninstall Norton Safety Minder without account information, please remove the network cable first then try to uninstall/reinstall NSM.  For details, please read the post at  http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Online-Family/Cannot-Uninstall-Saftey-Minder/m-p/123630/highl...

Thanks,

Katie

Finally got mine to work.  Didn't uninstall again or reinstall, just tried logging in and it finally worked.  Maybe an issue with the Norton site?

Thanks I tried it today with no changes or uninstall/reinstall and it worked.  There must have been an issue on the Norton servers.

All fixed.

Thanks both for the update.

Thanks,

Katie

I also had a screenshot attached to my previous post, which seems to have gone away :(

Hi schweppes and tjmitchem,

I just tested it myself and it worked fine for me.  Are you still experiencing the issue?  If so, what Operating System is running on the PC?

Thanks,

Katie

The issue went away for me, all by itself.  I let it sit overnight, then retried, and it worked.

Maybe there was a connectivity issue of some kind?
