I don't know what to call the problem... it was broke and seems to be fixed now. I'm ignorant about this computer stuff, and depending upon the folks who make security software. That's all the symptoms: slow startup, occasional operations would time out, and recurrent "tracking cookie"

Something got into my computer on May 4, 2008. Is there a way to know what it was that got past my Symantec protection? Does Symantec store a record of such problems? From power- on, my computer would take more than 5 minutes to start. Scanning found a tracking cookie. I tried “Fix” several times, but subsequent scans repeated the finding of a tracking cookie, and the long startup was not repaired.
I had to reinstall all the software to recover my system and it is mostly back to normal, but archived files are all on CD. I am fearful they could re- introduce the problem, and Symantec does not seem to protect against this threat.

Are you sure it is fixed?
Just let us know if something changes
Thanks. I hope it’s fixed: I don’t have any more of the slow- down symptoms and scans don’t detect tracking cookies.
Sounds good.

How sure are you it is malware?
besides the long start up.
Any other symptoms?
