Android browser only?

Web protection only works in Android browser? Please upgrade to protect majority of us who use Opera, Firefox or Dophin. Fix it soon. Since I never use Android browser, I see no point in renewing subscription if not done. Thanks

Hi, davisb,

Actually, a heavy majority uses Android browser exclusively, since it's what comes by default; that's why it needed to be covered first. As an Opera user myself, I would certainly like to see Opera support added--and several other regulars here are lobbying for Firefox--so I do empathize, though! Norton is looking at additional browser support already (with the ones you note being at the top of the list, I think), so I would be very surprised if there wasn't additional support (as for Norton desktop-based products) before our initial subscriptions run out.

Bear in mind, too, that Norton's anti-malware and anti-theft protections are probably your most significant benefits from having it installed (assuming you practice safe browsing habits)--and the call and SMS blocking functions are pretty darn handy too--so I don't consider this too much of a ding on the product...especially since many of the competing products don't offer Mobile browser protection at all yet (and as far as I know, any that do are strictly for the default browser as well).

Thanks for the feedback, though! The more folks who weigh in wanting other browser support, the better sense Team TMS will have of the demand curve.

DistEd2 is right.  The majority do use the default browser, but we have been looking at expanding support to other browsers potentially.  I'm sure that he also meant NMS and not TMS.  :smileywink:

Oops....

Well I see your point about the default browser. My not very scientific poll was with many of my friends. I lnow they do not make up a majority. But why anyone would use the Android browser when there are such good alternatives is baffling. And yes the other features do make a compelling case for continuing to use NMS. But web browsing is my main security concern. I’ve read that Android is coming under attack more now that it is so widely used. Hope the NMS team gets this done relatively soon. Thanks for your comments Davis

Much of your protection requirement while web browsing concerns malware...and your NMS malware protection is still there, regardless of what browser you use. The additional protection you're gaining from the browser integration is principally "early warning" about sites and pages that are known bad or have a bade reputation score. If you're practicing safe browsing habits, you've got most of that covered anyhow.

And since I don't believe we can uninstall the Android browser anyhow, you'll always have it there at the ready, with its integrated Norton protection, should you know you're going to be exploring some sites you're not familiar with and want the extra line of defense.

And that's just until Team NMS can field wider browser integration like Norton offers for its Desktop products :smileyvery-happy:
