Announcing Norton Together – Community Language Packs for Mac

Hi Norton for Mac Users,

I’m pleased to announce that we will soon be launching Norton Together for Mac. This new initiative enables users to provide NIS or NAV for Mac in new languages to other users.

How Does it Work?

Users can NOW login to Norton Together, choose the product and language they are interested in and start translating the NIS or NAV User Interface. Once a project gets to 100%, that language is then made available for free to other users.

Once the language pack is released, anyone with an up to date product can download and install them!

If you only speak English, you can still give us valuable feedback on the usability, comment on the look and feel, report any bugs or tell other users who may be able to contribute.

If you want to try it out, you can already start translating. If your language is not available, just request it here!

What will be the first language available?

PS. Screenshots and tutorials coming soon.

Thank you.

Very exciting! I can't wait to begin translating. I am sure this project will help increase the number of NAV and NIS users.

Can you please enable Turkish? It is in the languages list but not yet enabled I think.

Saner,

Great to get the feedback. We have now enabled Turkish for both NIS and NAV for Mac. You should see it next time you login.

Thanks!

Hi saner,

Wow, Turkish is completed to 99%. Thanks for your contribution!!

Everyone,

we have a long list of languages available for Norton Together. So if you want to get involved, let us know which language we should enable. List of all languages will follow shortly.

Regards,

I have a question, which ones of the following should be left untranslated?

Norton Service

Norton Account

LiveUpdate Agent

Norton Installer

Symantec Installer

Symantec Uninstaller

Setup Assistant

Norton QuickMenu

Symantec QuickMenu

Endpoint ID (Is Endpoint related to a product name?)

Hi saner,

See answers to your queries below:

DO NOT translate:

Norton Account

Norton QuickMenu

Symantec QuickMenu

Can be entirely or partly translated:

Norton Service - translate Service

LiveUpdate Agent - translate Agent

Norton/Symantec Installer - translate Installer

Symantec Uninstaller - translate Uninstaller

Setup Assistant - can be translated

Endpoint ID - can be translated

For your query relating to Endpoint ID:

Endpoint is related to a product name or feature when mentioned together with Symantec, e.g. Symantec Endpoint Protection or Symantec Endpoint Encryption...

Let us know if you have further queries :smileyhappy:

Hi Susanne,

Thank you for the answers. Here are a few more questions.

Which ones are to be translated?

AutoBlock

AutoSetup

the Self Test

DeepSight Community Submission

DeepSight

Community  Download

Auth 1

Auth 2

Auth 3

Client Firewall

How is this going to continue: "Automatically delete locations that have not been used in"? With a time frame such as "3 weeks"?

Apple HTTP QuickTime Buffer Overflow Blah?? (in NIS)

Why is "All Event" not "All Events" in NIS (Mac) 5.0?

For "All other Connections", I kept capital C equivalent capitalized as "Tüm diğer Bağlantılar". Is it correct?

What about these "DENTCR", "DENT_TM", "DENT_HORIZONTAL_ELIPSES", etc.?

"About Norton DeepSightDENT_TM Community" = Should I translate Community here? Where should I keep "DENT_TM"? "Norton DeepSightDENT_TM Community Hakkında" or "Norton DeepSight Community DENT_TM Hakkında"?

Norton Firewall is a product name but I translated all other "firewall"s to Turkish as "güvenlik duvarı". Should I translate Norton Firewall to Norton Güvenlik Duvarı in order to keep consistency? I guess not, but asking won't hurt.

What is "0k" in NIS (Mac)?

In "(*1) all computers to access \"(*2)\" on my Mac" or "(*1) the computer \"(*2)\" to access (*3) on my Mac" (NIS), what are those *1 and *2 going to be replaced with?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi saner,

great questions :) Here are some answers already:

Question: "Norton Firewall is a product name but I translated all other "firewall"s to Turkish as "güvenlik duvarı". Should I translate Norton Firewall to Norton Güvenlik Duvarı in order to keep consistency? I guess not, but asking won't hurt"

>>Answer: Firewall can be translated, so to keep it consistent, do use güvenlik duvarı or Norton Güvenlik Duvarı throughout.

Question: For "All other Connections", I kept capital C equivalent capitalized as "Tüm diğer Bağlantılar". Is it correct?

>>Answer: As a general rule you can keep capitals where you find them in the source text

I will need to check your other queries with the team and will try to get some screenshots for context.

Cheers,

Hi saner,

An addition to my info posted previously:

The entries "DENTCR", "DENT_TM", "DENT_HORIZONTAL_ELIPSES", "About Norton DeepSightDENT_TM Community" should not be touched or moved. These are part of the code and need to stay as is.

I hope to get an answer to your other queries asap.

Hi,

Since Norton Firewall can be translated as Norton Güvenlik Duvarı, should I also translate Norton Antivirus to Norton Antivirüs? (antivirüs is Turkish for antivirus)

Hi saner,

No, Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security are product names and should stay in English.

Cheers,

Hi saner,

Please find below answers to your outstanding queries:

1. Don’t translate: Auth 1 / Auth 2 / Auth 3

2. Apple HTTP QuickTime Buffer Overflow Blah?? (in NIS)

>> Ignore this string

3. Why is "All Event" not "All Events" in NIS (Mac) 5.0?

>> This is a typo

4. How is this going to continue: "Automatically delete locations that have not been used in"?

>> It continues with a timeframe. FYI screenshot below:

DeleteLocation.PNG

5. Are these placeholders? What are they going to be replaced with? In "(*1) all computers to access \"(*2)\" on my Mac" or "(*1) the computer \"(*2)\" to access (*3) on my Mac" (NIS)?

>> An example of how this is used: “<Allow> all computers to access <iTunes> on my Mac”.

6. What is "0k" in NIS (Mac)?

>> “0k” = zero kilobytes – Refers to the size if network traffic

Hope this helps :smileyhappy:

Hi Susanne,

Turkish translation is almost complete. There are more than 100 items including those "DENT..." strings and a few untranslated ones left. By the way, some of the "DENT..."s were accidentally translated before as you know. :smileyhappy: If there is no automated way of rolling them back I can copy their original strings to their translations one by one. I can also do that for the skipped "DENT..."s as well. I am waiting for your suggestion.

I am currently checking for any skipped ones, errors and inconsistencies so I might have a few more questions about translating terms or not. Thanks for your patience.

Saner

Saner -

Either way on the fixes...We could do those manually for you if you don't have a chance (since it was our fault).

Thanks,

Jason
