Annoying widevinecdm popup from norton

Since late yesterday and all today every now and then an annoying popup  from norton slides into the bottom right corner of my laptop telling me "widevinecdm.dll is safe".  It disappears on its own after a short while.  I have no idea why and how do I stop it ?

The Widevine pop up started today for me, but I have been getting annoying popups in error for renewing my credit card for over two months.  Norton has a bug in their alert system but they don't seem to care.  I think when they merged systems with Life Lock they managed to screw up both of them.

winevine is used by some sites to allow relavent ads on your PC. I said some, not all. With that said when I delete all of my cookies, it all went away

Thank you again bjm_. and Imacri on the other thread.

It has disappeared generally it seems so you must be right.  It was just coincidence for me and not a magic solution.

It looks to me like Microsoft has pulled the buggy Widevine v4.10.2391.0 update.

Further to the above -  About an hour ago I changed and applied the Download Insight Notifications setting back from "Risks Only" to the default "On" and since then the  "widevinecdm" nuisance has not appeared again.

Thank you bjm__.   I haven't seen it for a while now.

Just to let posters on this thread know . The main discussion on this subject seems to be at https://community.norton.com/en/forums/widevinecdmdll-1

I have followed bjm_s advice and changed the setting to Risks Only as outlined above.  Fingers crossed now.

Norton settings away from Default - Download Insight Notification On -> Risks Only

When the Download Insight Notifications option is set to Risks Only, Download Insight notifies only when you download an infected or a suspicious executable file.

Setting the Download Insight Notifications to Risks Only does not turn off analysis of all the other executable files that you download. Whether or not you receive notifications of all files, Security History keeps a record of all the Download Insight activities. You can review the summary of the Download Insight alerts and notifications in Security History.

I got this pop-up to today. seems to be from firefox...

Eh Norton, wake-up, this is annoying ... ok, it's safe, now we know (whatever it is!), let's get over it and stop the damn thing from showing up every time we open ANY WWW page!

Like others this is getting very annoying.  I get this pop-up more than 20 times a day.  If Norton says it is safe, then why keep notifying me multiple times that it is safe.

I've also reported this problem from within MS Edge at Help & Feedback | Send Feedback and attached a few screenshots to my report.

How to Add or Remove Feedback Button on Toolbar in Microsoft Edge Chromium

This is becoming REALLy annoying, I hope Norton, or, Edge fixes it REALLY soon, it's very unpleasant to see this pop-up every few minutes or anytime we open a new WWW page.

How do we get rid of it? If it's to be permanent, why not pop-up once and then that's it?

Thank you bjm_

I shall follow the main posting now.  I jumped in too quick not realising it was already  well under discussion.

This the first time I have posted on the new format and I was a little bit lost.
