I still use NIS 2012
Vista home premium 32 bit
Vista sp 2
Ok my NIS shows green check mark so nothing there indicating anything wrong
However, from time to time I will run NIS auto fix just to make sure all is well
So today was one if those days that I decided to run auto fix. Well auto fix indicated it fixed some installation issue. And as usual no more details than that.
Now mind you, my system showed green check mark prior to me running the auto fix, so according to that all should have been ok
Now this concerns me because it has always been explained to me here in the forums that if the
system shows green check mark, then nothing is wrong
But then why would auto fix have to fix something regarding the installation?
Has my NIS been running incorrectly all this time?
I have seen other folks told to remove and reinstall NIS.
I would hate to have to do this, but is the information from the auto fix telling me that is what I need to do? (Remove and reinstall)

Hi Calls,
Auto fix can fix any number of minor problems that have no bearing on the security of your system. If there is a problem which degrades your security the green circle will be gone.
I would not consider doing the remove and reinstall routine unless autofix cannot solve the problem or I get an error message telling me that the RnR routine is needed.
There is nothing stopping you from doing a manual RnR or using the tool to do it if you feel it necessary. Nothing in your message indicates to me tha it is necessary.
Stay well and surf safe
Hi Calls
I’ve got the same specifications as you so I thought I’d run autofix to see what I get I haven’t run it for a couple of months at least. The image below is what I got and the text below that is from, copy to clipboard from the autofix result window.
I ran autofix again and no issues where found.
If the Norton product was not working correctly it would prompt with a message, what ever autofix repaired doesn’t have a error code related to it what it has repaired I have no idea but some one may post with their thoughts on what it may be. As far as reinstalling Norton is concerned I don’t think its necessary.
Try running autofix again?

It is possible that there may have been an update that needed to be applied. Had you run LiveUpdate, you may have seen the box to Apply Now.
Running Autofix may have Applied some patch.
You may be able to see something in Norton History.
Hi Calls,
It happens from time to time even on my systems, without previously making changes, from my part, and I can assure you that if Autofix shows only installation fix without any items listed, everything runs OK on your system and with NIS operation.
I do not think that it has something to do with LU because I have mine set to OFF (manual).
It happened with NIS 2012, NIS 2013 & NIS 2014 sometimes.
Hope this helps your understanding.
Best regards,
Here lately I have been getting the mesage from Auto fix that one item has been repaired the first time I do it. If I repeat it right afterwards I get no such message. This has never happened before, and if I do auto fix again later the same messages will be repeated. I have a feeling it's a Norton error.

Hi,
I cannot find for the moment a old post from a Symantec employee mentionning that this event doesn't affect at all NIS functionnality and that these "installation fix" repairs are of no concern, but if you search a bit in the forum you may be able to find it!!
Kind regards,

Is this the post you refer to?
Hi Krusty13,
Yes, that is the post.
Thank you very much!!
Kindest regards,
You're welcome Apostolos.
Glad to help.
Is this related to your issue? http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-Autofix/m-p/1037907#M247086
Dave- it’s kinda sorta related ( don’t mean to be do technical, lol)
That’s what generated my question.
I notice something similar to holly in that if I run auto fix it indicates installation success. If I run it again say later in the day or the next day it will indicate again that it fixed something, yet again NIS shows green before the auto fix
Hi Calls,
Before I continue, just a reminder, as long as there is no error code in Autofix, NIS is working correctly.
It happens from time to time, especially when a browser session is finished, or if you sometimes change some setting in the browser, i.e. when for example you enable or disable an add-on.
Sometimes, even you are doing nothing, Autofix is showing the message "Installation repair-successfully fixed 1 item".
You will notice that, if you run it a second time right after the first, it finds nothing and it completes with no problem.
There is nothing to be worried about and you are always protected, as long as the NIS icon in taskbar is green.
I had this with NIS 2012, NIS 2013 and now with NIS 2014.
Hope this helps,
Kind regards,
for what its worth, I have clicked support auto fix several times now since this post and have gotten several "installation success" messages but nothing noted what is fixed.
I notice if I hit auto fix I'll get the installation success message. If i run autofix say againa sfte an hour or so, it shows all is well
If i hit it say 24 hours later, then again I get theinstallation success message with no indication of what was corrected.
So is it really just a non critical issue that we all ( and I know there are afew folks concerned with this) can just ignore as long as there is no error message noted?
I would hate to have to uninstall and reinstall. Really do NOT want to have to do that

You would end up with the same "issue" again, which is a non-issue. It's not a phenomenon isolated to your computer, but something common that Symantec has no plans to fix:
