Another day... Oh hey look, another new problem

Hey everyone, it's me again.

Yesterday we got my nis2009 working with my security center, it was 10+ pages of hassal :S

A new day, another problem with norton...

Okay so heres my situation.

Last night when I was going to go to bed, I turned off my computer, everything reported as okay.

This morning when I turned it on, my norton icon in my systems tray has a red "X" over it, instead of a green checkmark. So I open up norton to see what the problem is. My Anti Virus and Anti Spyware are "off", I turn them on manually, and click "fix now" by the norton icon to the left. It takes me to a screen "Fix Now" with a progress bar, like I was updating my definitions or something. Once it finishes, it says "fix not complete"  and antispyware, along with anti-virus, report as "not fixed".

So now I run updater, and my update downloads a 30 meg file (I think?), I then click fix now, and it seems my antivirus is okay now, but my anti spyware is not. I decided to click help and support, and I get instructions telling me to download intelligent update V5i32.

Okay,so I download this and run it, it does nothing to help my situation, I am still "at risk" status.

Next thing I know, I am in some sort of chat window, from following help instructions, and there is this person asing me to go to

https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/R?i=2&Code=392323

So they can get into "my" computer. Needless to say, I closed out of the window without a second thought. Now I'm a little scared to even reboot again, that some other system or program might shut down on me. I honestly hope this doesnt become a daily thing :( these norton problems, that is.

Well, I have the Norton Internet Security (nis) 2009. It has built in antivirus and antispyware.

uninstal  Anti Virus and Anti Spyware

So I need to uninstall/reinstall norton…Again?

and tell me

I have to go. I’ll check back on the topic later when I get back.

ok

Thanks Alex

One of the downloads seemed to be the ticket to fixing things. I dont know why Norton is like this though, what caused my anti spy/vi to go down like that though. If it acts up again, well then, this likely wont be the last the forum hears from me..

Norton has, by far, been the most problematic product i've ever known.. It is good.. When it works.. Lots of nice features.. When it wants to work.

Thanks for your help though.
