Another LIveUpdate 2011 Failure Scenario

I have Norton Internet Security 2011 installed on a desktop running Windows XP SP3 and a laptop with Windows 7.  At home, I connect to the internet via my desktop's dial-up modem; the laptop connects through the desktop using AnalogX Proxy.  At home, LiveUpdate works on both the desktop and laptop.

When I connect to the internet from my laptop using a public wi-fi network (no network firewall), LiveUpdate fails with the error "unable to connect to network proxy server."  In both Windows and NIS, I have cleared all network proxy settings, as prescribed in NIS help.  All my other programs are able to connect through the wi-fi network except NIS 11, which seems to be looking for a network proxy even though I have cleared the proxy settings and applied the changes.  I never had this problem in NIS 10.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this?  I've already spent significant time with a Symantec support tech, who fooled around with my network settings and ran a variety of tests but was unable to get LiveUpdate to connect through the wi-fi network.

Thank you,

Terry
