Antiphishing Definition Question

Today I uninstalled NIS09 16.7.2.10 and reinstalled 16.5.0.135 (I ran NRT twice in between).  Now I don't see any entries in the log for the antiphishing definitions.  When I had 16.7.2.10 I used to see the the entries.  How can I tell if I am getting the antiphishing definition updates?

Are you sure you are not receiving any antiphishing definitions? If I recall in liveupdate they are called web protection definitions and should come rather often. Try checking the “identity” section of the NIS history.

Hi, pexley,

When I had 134, the "Identity" in the Security History was not working, so it did not show when I Downloaded and Installed the Norton 2009 Web Protection Definitions, and I think that is what is happening here.

The Norton 2009 Web Protection Definitions are Released every two hours, so, if you have Automatic LiveUpdate On and Silent Mode Off, you will be getting all the Updates your Norton 2009 Product needs to stay up-to-date via the Background Tasks.  You can always look at them to see when the "Antiphishing Updates" Last Ran.

It says the Antiphishing Updates were never run.  I reinstalled NIS09 about four hours ago.

It could be that the it is sticking.  If it still says "Not Run" this time tomorrow, please let us know.

I am not familiar with Vista so, therefore, I cannot give you instructions; my apologies.

I found an old thread from the time that 16.5.0.135 was first released that said Antiphishing Updates did not work on Vista 64 bit systems. According to the thread Symantec released a patch via Live Update to fix it.  Is this patch still being downloaded via Live Update or did Symantec stop all patches because of the 16.7 issue?

car825,

the patch should still be being downloaded - unless it has been changed to be included in the 16.7 patch. in the mean time you could use the intelligent updater?

regards,

Matt
