I only find one thread that discusses “AntiSpam OE Hook Launcher has stopped working,” a Windows message that just appeared, but that discussion does not seem relevant to me. Although Outlook is installed on this 64-bit Vista machine as part of Office 2007 Pro, I have not even opened it, nor do I use any other client email. I use various webmails, Windows Live Hotmail, sbc/yahoo mail, and gmail. IE8 was open when the message came up, but I had been cooking dinner for my parrots, and the only thing active going on was that I was defragging a 1TB external hd. [Of course, you never know, maybe Norton had started doing its “background tasks” or something, but Norton usually saves that for when I’m trying to install a program.] I don’t use any form of instant messaging; I can barely tolerate email or even the telephone. Windows says, “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” [Fat chance of that…I have yet to see Windows notify me about solutions to any of its myriad of problems.] My first thought was that the “Hook Launcher” was some kind of spyware until my friend Google told me it was part of my NIS. Obviously, I have never seen this message before, and if it were any other program, I would probably ignore it, but I am paranoid and I want my security programs to function properly, so I am wondering if I should be concerned about this message, or if it is just another instance of Vista trying to make my life miserable.
