It would appear that the choice is to go back and pay for Norton 360 to be rid of this sign-in dialogue box or to continue with the free version of Norton 360 provided by BT and put up with the sign-in box periodically appearing. I think I will do the latter, to save money.
Thanks for trying to solve this.
The link provided opens unless, you are running a VPN and/or have ad blockers enabled. Thanks bjm_ for presenting the basics of the article in plain view. I got busy over the weekend and have not had time to revisit the thread until now.
The link you've provided to the Microsoft article only produces "Sorry, page not found."
I had a look at my Microsoft account, security features. Part way through the process, it asked for a secondary e-mail address; so I entered it (carefully) but it didn't send a code to that address. I tried a second time and still no code was received. So I couldn't continue with the process and therefore couldn't get as far as seeing anything about 2 factor authentication.
Thanks for the post back. I stepped back a bit and had another look at your screenshot. The account credentials being asked for are your Microsoft credentials it appears. Please check your Microsoft account for 2 factor authentication being set. Please review the article below and let us know your results so that we may follow up.
I had followed those instructions. However, when I look (at point 9) at the Logon network security list, nothing is listed under it and so I am unable to select Anonymous Authentication.
This is applicable from the article. Have you done what this suggests without any positive results?
For affected versions of Outlook
If you have an older version of Outlook, change the Logon network security setting to Anonymous Authentication to fix this issue. To do this, follow these steps:
Exit Outlook.
Open Control Panel, and then do one of the following:
<ul>
<li>In Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 7, click <strong>Start</strong>, type control panel in the search box, and then press Enter.</li>
<li>In Windows 8, swipe in from the right side to open the charms, tap or click <strong>Search</strong>, and then type control panel in the search box. Or, type control panel at the <strong>Start</strong> screen, and then tap or click Control Panel in the search results.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>
<p>In Control Panel, locate and double-click <strong>Mail</strong>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Click <strong>Show Profiles</strong>, select your Outlook profile, and then click <strong>Properties</strong>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Click <strong>E-mail Accounts</strong>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Select your email account, and then click <strong>Change</strong>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>In the <strong>Change Account</strong> dialog box, click <strong>More Settings</strong>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>In the <strong>Microsoft Exchange</strong> dialog box, select the <strong>Security</strong> tab.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><u><strong>On the Logon network security list, select Anonymous Authentication, and then click OK.</strong></u></p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Click <strong>Next</strong>, click <strong>Finish</strong>, and then click <strong>Close</strong> on the <strong>Account Settings</strong> dialog box.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Click <strong>Close</strong> on the <strong>Mail Setup</strong> dialog box, and then click <strong>OK</strong> to close the <strong>Mail control</strong> panel.</p>

Um I'm asking for your screenshot removal due to your email address being visible. Since Norton 360 is installed and I am seeing a Windows Security prompt in your screenshot. I'm finding it very odd that Windows is prompting you for that password. If you haven't ran Malwarebytes to check for possible infection please do.
Are you using Outlook.com as in Windows, or Outlook 365, or Office Outlook? There are some differences in settings so if we may, I would like to clarify what exactly you are using as a client. Also. Could you please post a screenshot of the dialog for us to review? I would like to see exactly what you are seeing to better assist. Thanks in advance.
