Antispam plug in with outlook 2010 x64 crash

Well, after years of waiting and asking for antispam support on office outlook 64 bits finally gets here with lastest version 2014. I try to use it, and when I check an email this is spam outlook inmediatly crash and must be close. After that, I open again outlook, and saids it closed wrong because the norton anti-spam plug in was the cause, if I want to diasable. If I disable I can continue using outlook as normal, but obviously the antispam didn't work. And if I choose keep using it, the same error happens. I try with the support in 3 ocasion and no luck. Try reinstalling, all fine, but the same error appear. So, my guess is a problem with that plug in and outlook x64. I think after so many years it will finally work, I guess it not.

In norton 2014 starts the support for outlook x64. Which is the version 21.0.1.3. In 2013 still didn't have support. These is the first time in years that it has support for 64 bits office. So, now I can go to configuration, network, message proection, client integration and now outlook isn't gray out like in 2013 and previous version, I can check on that. The problem is when outlook opens, you can see the antispam bar, but when I click on the button this is spam it crash.

I stand corrected. I did find an updated information page for the 2014 products, and it no longer lists the Outlook 2010 64 bit as unsupported.

Have you tried disabling anti spam feature to see if things work well again?

I'll try to ask for some clarification from Norton on the new support.

If I don't enable the antispam plug in outlook works just fine. But If I enable, and choose it is spam it crash, simply as that. So, there is a problem between the plug in and outlook 2010 64 bit. Even outlook saids that this plug in cause the error and if I want to disable, if I choose to disable, outlook works again just fine. I guess this feature didn't pass all the testing, or at least they didn't take the time for real testing.

Hi,

can you please let us know how you installed the 2014 Norton version? Did you do a clean install, or did you an overinstall from a previous Norton version?

I use also the 2014 products with Outlook 2010 x64, and I have no problems with it. It works as it should.

I removed the previous version before installing 2014. Here are the steps to do it:

The solution for this would be to remove the program with the Norton Removal Tool, and then reinstall it.
Here are the steps:
1. If you use the feature, please backup your Identity Safe data
2. Download latest Norton Internet Security installer from www.norton.com/latestnis
3. Download Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove Norton Internet Security from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton Internet Security 2014 with the previously downloaded installer
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Activate it with your old serial
11. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
12. Restore your Identity Safe data

You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.

Let us know the results.

Hi MAD5:

Other users in the forum have reported that a recent update to the 64-bit MS Office 2010 SP2 software created a conflict with the Norton antispam plugin for Outlook (msouplug.dll) - see avjohnnie's thread here.

avjohnnie posted a possible work-around here that might help if any of the comments in these threads look familiar.  The final step in his process is an upgrade to the latest version of NIS 21.x so PapauZ's instructions in post # 6 for a clean re-install of NIS 21.x will likely work just as well.

Hi MAD5:

Tony Weiss posted an announcement here today regarding the upcoming NIS v. 21.1.0.18 product update that states in part:

- Fixed issue where a New Folder is created in outlook whenever outlook is opened with Norton Anti-Spam enabled [link]

Once this NIS product update has been delivered to your computer via LiveUpdate you might find that your Norton Anti-Spam plugin is behaving better in Outlook 2010.

Well, I try with this new version, and problem remains the same.

MAD5, i've asked someone from Symantec to look at your problem.

Thanks for reporting this issue.
