Antispam

Bonjour,

In looking at the details of your original post a bit more now I realize that you are using NIS 09 and not and older version NIS 08 or Norton 360 v2. That tool BackupAOPSettings.exe was created for those old products.

If you want to save your settings so that if you format your drive you will have to do the following:

You have to uninstall the product NIS/N360 by clicking "custom option uninstall".

This will save your user settings along with antispam settings to the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NortonInstaller\Settings\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}.7z

You will then have to save this "NortonInstaller" folder on some backup device.

Once you format or replace your disk, you can copy the "NortonInstaller" folder to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ folder and start NIS/N360 install

This will backup your antispam settings.

I use NIS 2009 and have downloaded BackupAOPsettings.exe.  When the program confirms the backup, which files contain the backup info and where are they located.  If these files can be saved, my antispam settings can be restored when a new hard drive is installed or if my present drive is reformatted. Thanks

Welcome to Norton Community,

Hight CPU usage depends on many factors - Hardware -RAM speed, Applications installed, Windows Updates. Norton also may be reason. When many applications are running simultaneously, such problem may occur. If you have older Norton Internet Security, you may upgrade to NIS 2010 (Upgrade to NIS 2010 is free for valid subscription) Some performance improvements were made for NIS 2010. Also run live update and reboot your system.

I have the latest version of NIS 2010 down loaded yesterday – after many efforts to send emails  the Antispam was turned off prior to rebooting the PC and afterwards  the Norton Antispam toolbar did not re-appear and Antispam was turned back on. I have had to reboot the PC for another reason without Antispam being turned off and I am having problems again – the emails in the Outbox are not closing and the Norton Antispam toolbar has reappeared – this must be linked to the problem.

What version of Outlook are you running?  Anyother addon to Outlook?

If you are running Outlook 2010 than it is correct it isn't running.

Running Outlook 2003 without  known add ons - everything was OK until 17.5.0.127 NIS was downloed

A further comment from Norton would be appreciated please - Karthil Swamy's comments did not address the real problem i.e. Outgoing emails cannot be sent because the envelope in the Outbox is not closed.

Could you please provide a little bit more information about the problem:

1. What version of Windows you have?

2. Do you have any other security software installed on your computer?

2. What other Outlook plug-ins you have? Here is how to find this out for Outlook 2003:

    2.1. Menu Tools | Options...,

    2.2. Tab: Other,

    2.3. Button: Advanced Options...

2.4 From here you can check two kind of ad-ins: non-COM and COM with the buttons: "Add-in Manger..." and "COM Add-ins...". Please post here add-ins listed in both lists.

Thanks,

Victor

At last some sensible suggestions - thank you.

Window XP and Outlook 2003

Addin mamager

Exchange Extension Property Pages

Fax Server Extension

TeamStatusForm

Com Add-In

Norton Antispam Outlook Plugin (now removed)

Oulook backup Addin

All of the above were checked

By removing Antispma I can now send eamils

Is Antispam compromised by removing the Add In - Antspam remains on in the NIS Settings page

Understabnding what is going on would be useful

Anamec,

Thanks for your reply.

Please, read this article about this problem: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011879881033.aspx

The problem is that Outlook 2003 would not send a message if it was modified while it is in the Outbox. "Modified" means even such small thing as changing its status from unread to read (visually, from bold to regular font). For example, if you open message in the Outbox or just view it in preview or do anything else that causes the status of the message to change from unread to read, Outlook 2003 would not send it.

The same problem can be caused by any Outlook Add on that just reads the message. The status of such message is changed and it is not sent.

The current version of Norton AntiSpam does not monitor messages in Outbox, so it should not cause this problem by itself. Apparently, something happens in combination with other Outlook Add-ons. The article I mentioned above has a link to the list of Outlook Add-Ons that may cause the problem. Outlook backup Addin is listed there as well as Norton AntiSpam plug-in and many others.

Could you please try to disable Outlook backup Addin and enable Norton AntiSpam plug-in to see if the problem still exists in this combination.

On your question "whether Norton AntiSpam is compromised when the plug-in is disabled":

Norton AntiSpam scans messages while they are in the network stack before they reach Outlook application. The result of the detection is added to the message in form of some additional headers and in form of the [Norton AntiSpam] tag added to the subject of spam messages. Norton AntiSpam Outlook plug-in is responsible for moving messages that have the tag to the Junk folder. It is also responsible for functionality exposed with the buttons on the Norton AntiSpam toolbar. This is the only functionality that you would lose if you disable the plug-in. Messages still going to be scanned. You may manually create a rule in Outlook to move messages to the Junk folder if the subject has [Norton AntiSpam] in it to mitigate some of the lost functionality.

Victor

Good Eveneing Victor

Thank you very much for your help in finding a way to send emails again - I am running without Antispam checked in in Com-Add In and will leave it like that as all seems well.

Once again thank you for understanding and responding to my problem - I have also downloaded the Microsoft infromation sheet.

Hi bcassam

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums

Open Norton Internet Security, click on Settings then on Network Settings and check that the Antispam option is turned on.

How do you  re-install the Norton Internet security antispam plug-in for Outlook 2010. It stop showing in the Outlook add-in list. Also not in any ribbon or under the add-in button. Runing Windosw 7 32-bit

Internet security version 18.5.0.125

The option is on and Outlook is selected

Try going inot NIS settings, turning the antispam option off and coming out of NIS settings and opening Outlook. Then close Outlook, go back into NIS ettings and enable the antispam option. Then open Outlook to see if the Norton option is there.

I noticed once or twice if Outlook gets a crash sometimes it stops to load plugins.

If mdturner's suggestion do not works, please open the Outlook settings, go to the Add-ins tab, and check how Norton is listed  (active, inactive, or disabled). If disabled or inactive, please change it to active again with the Manage option.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply. This did work.
