Antivirus 7.2.0f90...can read,...and transmit sensitive info...like passwords, phone numbers and credit cards

A pop-up that appeared to be from my earthlink extensions folder appeared (along with a button marked UNINSTALL) that said: "Norton Antivirus" can read, modify, and transmit content from all webpages. This includes sensitive information like passwords, phone numbers, and credit cards." I had just spotted an email for earthlink in my spamblocker folder, but the email address and website address looked legit, so I went to myaccount.earthlink.net and changed the exp date of my payment credit card and added the security code to the credit card. Shortly after, this pop-up popped up. I will be contacting earthlink next, but they have sold me their Norton security package which I have not installed yet. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on?
