Antivirus has red X, says "your computer at risk"

I have Norton Antivirus 18.6.0.29  .

This just happened on my computer. I updated, rebooted and still says the same.

I used my backup and still says the same thing.

In quarantine history Norton caught trojanfakeAV on April 8th.

Do I have some trojan, virus etc that is still on my computer?

Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome to Norton Community.

What i understand from that you are telling us, it seems like you have a Trojan Horse on your backup drive or your computer.

Look at norton history and go to Quarantine and look at more closely, and norton can tell where it find the Trojan on your backup drive or on your computer.

if norton found the trojan and quarantine it the you should be safe, but do a Full System Scan on your computer and backup drive using the latest protection updates.

You can also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to scan your computer for virus and trojan horse

I would all so recommend you to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, here are the link to the downlload page.

Here are a link to how to remove Trojan.FakeAV from your computer or Backup drive.

Norton Power Eraser, a good tool to scan your computer for trojans and virus.

i hope this will help you with your problem, can you also post a replay how it goes and if it fixed the problem on your computer.

Hi Electron,

Does the alert tell you what component of Norton is not working?

To make sure that it is not a subscription issue, click Support > Subscription Status and let the Subscription Status Check run.

The message states "System Status: At Risk".

In bottom tray yellow norton icon has X in red circle instead of green circle.

Also when I open antivirus, it says 75 days old.

However it has only been since april 10, hardly 75 days.

I uninstalled norton/symantec including "Searching all files" results and deleting results.

Then running outboard backup Acronis on external F: drive and reinstalling C: drive.

F: drive is external and unplugged. Only powered on and connected when I backup C: drive,

or when I restore from F: drive.

When I backed up the C: drive on the external F: drive, all was working quite well, including

just the other day.

Thank you gentlemen for posting. I should have provided more information to help.

Electron

Ps. I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware along with other programs and nothing found.

Is your system date and time correct? If not, please correct it and then run LiveUpdate.

Thanks Cyberlife. I checked and it was off, my bad. Corrected it

and all appears ok now.

Much appreciated Gentlemen.
