I know its just out, but seeing my current version 20.4 is working (Finally) with Windows 8, dare I risk all with Windows 8.1?? Thoughts??
All bets are off with any pre release software. You will become a beta tester for both the new Windows version and any software that you have added to your system, including Norton.
Be sure you have everything fully backed up, preferably with imaging software, before deploying Win 8.1
Or better of course....make a seperate partition or VHD with Windows 8.1.
With NIS you are basically on your own for now, till 8.1 becomes RTM. Most of the times, Symantec announces compatibility some weeks before RTM.
If you are going to run Windows 8.1 then try the NIS 21 beta. It claims compatibility though I have not tried it myself in that combination.
Do not work Norton Internet Security in Windows 8.1 preview.
Hi everyone,
You may have noticed an incompatibility message when using the latest build of Windows 8.1 Preview release with Norton Internet Security 20.4. Microsoft will be updating Windows 8.1 Preview shortly to lift the incompatibility message.
As with any Preview version of a product, you should expect incompatibilities and issues until the product is fully released. That's the nature of testing software. If this compatibility problem is too inconvenient for you, and you do not wish to wait for the update to be released, you may want to test our Public Beta for Norton Internet Security v21 that is compatible with Windows 8.1 preview. Again, this is more software testing, and there may be other issues that arise. But with any Preview or Beta version, you run the risk of encountering problems with the software. This is the purpose of the Preview, to find these issues before the product is fully released.
I hope this helps. let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
I updated to Win 8.1 and got the compatibily warning with NIS 2012 and it would not run. After deleting and reinstalling NIS 2012 I still got the warning but it now runs OK. I can access it througt the taskbar icon but not throught the desktop shortcut. In Firefox the toolbar and local vault work fine but in IE-11 the toolbar shows enabled but I could not get the toolbar to show up. I have gone back to Windows 8 on that system but plan to dual boot 8.1 using a clean install of 8.1 ISO on my other system and then do testing on NIS. Heard a rumor that Windows 8.1 may go RTM on Aug 1 but that is just a rumor.

I have NIS bet 21.0.0.58 running under Windows 8.1, and it is running without any problems.
My question is whether the production version of NIS 2013 will work under Windows 8.1 RTM when it is released.
I have a subscription that does not expire for 4 more months. Assuming that the RTM is released before then, I feel that I should expect NIS to work under the new O/S.
Symantec - any comment to this?
Hi blegs38552,
After Windows 8.1 has been released (not in a preview or pre-release state, but RTM) we plan to have our current version support this updated operating system. If Windows 8.1 is released significantly before NIS v21 is released, that means we'll update NIS 20.x and ensure that v21 is compatible as well.
While we don't plan on there being any delays between when Windows 8.1 is released and our products are compatible, there's always a chance that a last-minute change to Windows 8.1 might result in a compatibility issue. We cannot control the changes that are made to Windows 8.1 throughout its development cycle, but we will react quickly to any last-minute issues, and will work hard to ensure our products are updated quickly and effectively. Thanks.

Ok but in NIS Beta I can't use regular account, but special Beta account; witch not reslove problem with Windows 8.1 incompatibility.
[EDIT] I want to use the product which I already paid for.

If you wish to use the product you paid for, you will note that the OSs supported does not cover Win 8.1 or any other beta OS. You will have to install on a supported OS.
You did not pay for either Win 8.1 or the Norton 2014 beta.

Big disappointment today. Yesterday July 2 MS released a number of updates to 8.1. One of the updates was to clear some of the compatibility problems for 3rd party programs and Norton was mentioned. However I still get the same warning with both NIS 2012 and 2013. Better luck on the next update.
