Hi,

For browsing/ browser security, you may install extensions or plugins like:

  • Adblock or adblock plus
  • HTTPS Everywhere
  • Keep your browser up-to-date
  • Use norton identity protection extension
  • Prevent javascripts from running automatically all the time
  • Enable HTTPS / SSL certificate revocation checking
  • Ensure you do not install any toolbars comming with softwares until you trust the whole software and the publishers
  • Use password managers like Norton ID Safe to manage your passwords especially those with with high complexity to guess
  • Don't share everything or visit every links found, untill you verify the link addresses

For overall system protection:

  • Install a good AV (ofcourse Norton) as First Line of Defence with real time scanning and firewall and keep it up to date
  • Install another AV which can co-exist with other company's AV as Second Line of Defence with only on-demand scanning enabled
  • Configure norton DNS in your Network adapters
  • Keep your OS and programs up-to-date
  • Keep your drivers up-to-date
  • Make sure to use Norton's insight scanning to check the files and processes with online database of Norton. This helps to find its trust level, performance impact, optimize Norton's scanning etc
  • Install softwares like Sandboxie to execute your untrusted programs in controlled environment
  • Avoid installing keygens, adwares, and cracks.
  • Regularly perform quick scans (Atleast once a day)
  • Perform Full system scans at fixed intervals
  • Use a Back up policy for online and offline backup.
  • Use good encryption softwares to encrypt data / drives (Like truecrypt or disk cryptor)
  • Use only verified and authentic applications

For email security:

  • Set up a good firewall on your system
  • Use good email clients in your system
  • Maintain multiple email accounts for different purposes (Official /Work, Personal /Private, Others)
  • Donot open mails from unknown sources
  • Scan the attachments too, before opening
  • Follow some security news letters to keep up breach knowledge (Like INFOSEC)
  • Use two step or Multi factor authentication techniques for authentication
  • Change your password at regula intervals
  • Copy and paste links of email in a new window rather than opening it on same tab or window
