Hi I installed the NMS on my phone after noticing poor battery life, being bombarded with ads, phone heating up, and huge data usage jump. The issues had been going on for awhile but it dawned on me that it could be a virus. I wasn’t able to get Norton on my phone right away because wherever I tried to install it from that app would crash. I finally got it installed and the only things were just basically a warning to use VPN when using WiFi while I wait for T-Mobile to find a patch. I ran the malware again and it comes up clean, that’s why I was asking about the numbers. I still think it’s some kind of malware but everything come up safe. The only warnings are data mining in a few apps, is that something I should be concerned with?
i have a galaxy note3 on T-Mobile in android 5.0
Not sure there is a way to go back to a specific date on a mobile device. Anyway, you would still need to update again to get the latest protection features and virus definitions.
Whatever is going on at your house is probably not related to your mobile device, as anything going on there should not affect a PS 4 or your iPad.
Going back to your original post noting ads popping up. Maybe a second opinion scan with Malwarebytes can help. It focuses more on PUPs than Norton products.
Maybe others here will have some insight on your other devices behavior issues.
Hi again. Yes I’m pretty sure there isn’t anyone else using the devices, although I can’t say that at 100%. I really just want to do a reset, but I’d lose pretty much everything. Would restoring to a different date do any good? Even though that would put me back where all these apps were starting to update once a day and have crazy permissions attached. I swear this is the last time I allow apps to auto update.
Are you sure there are no other people in your house using these devices? We had one case of a user having strange battery usage. Turned out his son was sneaking the phone to play games in the middle of the night.
With all your devices acting unusually, this does not sound like a Norton Mobile issue. I'll ask this thread be moved to a different board where more eyes will see it.
Sorry for my late reply, I had a loooong day at work. I doubt it was sync because I had it turned off. But maybe it was, I’m not sure how sync would activate itself tho. The files were pictures. I also noticed yesterday that somehow my PlayStation 4 turned itself on to the internet. It was using a bunch of data and from what I could tell looked like it was off, no lights on the console or the controller. This is strange to me, and of course I did a bunch of google searches on possibilities which prob didn’t help me at all just got me more concerned. My iPad was even acting weirdly, somehow someone tried to reset my iCloud or iTunes password. Do you know anything about full stop and microtests? I’m thinking it might have something to do with that. But I’m really unsure.
For the files you feel may be Bluetooth transfers, what kind of files were transferred? This could also be some sync settings in your device settings for your Google Account that sync'd your two devices. As long as your tablet had a wifi connection, these files could have been transferred from your Google Account.
Thanks for the quick reply! I have a feeling it might be some sort of infection or maybe something else. I do know that a few days ago I was on an old tablet that I had plugged in to charge for a few nights and when it was fully charged I noticed the Bluetooth was on and I thought that was strange, but then I noticed that there were files transferred on to it. I knew they were from my phone because that’s the only place they are located. And I didn’t transfer them. Do you know how they could have jumped from my phone to my tablet that is really never used. Could that be a virus or a some sort of hack? I’ve tried to research myself but I run into a lot of chatter I don’t understand.
i really don’t want to do a factory reset, but I think each day is bringing me closer and closer to that. I’ll really try anything before I do that.
If you are asking about version numbers of definitions and MSE config, you should be able to see those in the NMS app Activity Log. Tap the three bars at top left of the app screen. Then tap on Activity Log.
The app crashing while trying to install, could indicate some kind of infection on the device. As with PC's, it may be recommended to deal with any infection before installing a security product, just to be sure that any infection does not corrupt the installation.
The data mining notification usually points to telemetry about the apps usage, to help developers understand how their apps are being used. The notifications are for information to help you decide if you trust the developers with that kind of information. If you do, you can trust the app. If you do not, delete the app and look for some other developer's app.
