Are Windows Defender and NIS 2009 Version 16.7.2.11 compatible again?

There was an issue with NIS 2009 Version 16.5.0.135 shutting off Windows Defender. According to Symantec, the issue was resolved in NIS 2009 Version 16.7.2.11

Now that I have version 16.7.2.11 installed on my computer I want to turn on Windows Defender to see if it now works alongside NIS 2009. but since I had other issues  during the last update of 16.7.2.10 I want to first know if anybody out there turned on windows defender since the update to 16.7.2.11, and if so, are they working ok together?

Thanks

Hi TooStrong,

According to the post below, the latest patch 2.11 fixes compatibility issues between Windows Defender and NIS:

http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=70153#M70153,

- Fixed issue where Windows Defender was disabled on every reboot

They should run smoothly together, now. However, it is recommended to have only one real-time security program running, so if Windows Defender is disabled, then it doesn't matter. Just make sure NIS 2009 is the program which is always on.

Hi, just to let you know.  I have NIS 2010 running and it disables Windows Defender.  I try to open Windows Defender and it opens for about a minute and then it shuts down with no warning.  There is no log of it in NIS 2010 so I assume that it’s NIS 2010, am I right?

Do you have WD set to do real time scanning?  If not then it will check for updates and then close itself.

I just checked.  WD is set to scan in real time.  At first, when I started it and then it turned off, I thought I had something so I went to search and found out that it was Norton that shut it off.  Norton should at least log this in the log history.

What did you search; here or a log?  Is it removed from the running processes or just from the Task Tray?  If it is from the Task Tray then check the options to see if you have it set to show all the time or just when there is an action to take.  I’m running NIS2010 (and previously 16.7.2.11) and have no problem with WD running.

When WD shut down on it’s own, my first thought was a virus or something so I went to check NIS history log to see if there was anything there but there wasn’t.  So I went online here to search for WD to see if anyone else had the same problem and I found out that some do.

Sorry for the missed post: are you sure it is closed or just not showing in the Task Tray area?

I have NIS 2010 amd windows defender with all realtime protections on and it runs fine with NIS and is NOT diabled.

Wierd.  It did not shut down anymore.  Earlier, when I clicked on WD in the Control Panel area, it said that it was turn off and the UAC asked to turn it back on.  After it shut down, I clicked on it again and the same thing happen but now it is on still.  It seems to be working together now.  Should I turn off the real time protection from WD?

Personal choice on the real time scanning but it will at least affect NIS's scan times.  Personally I would leave the real time off and just use it for on demand scanning when I needed it.  The choice is yours.

Glad to here it is working for you.

Do you have ad-aware install too by any chance?  I did but there was too many logs in the NIS 2010 history about ad-aware so I uninstalled it.  all i have now is NIS 2010, spybot, and WD.
