At risk from hackers?

Hi there

I'm a long-time Norton security software user. I am currently running the NIS 2009 suite, works very nicely, BUT...

I went to the online Symantec Security scan, more out of curiosity than anything else, and after running the Security Check, it reports that everything is okay except that I'm at risk in the Hacker Exposure section!!

Apparently several firewall rules have not been put in place (there are three ports not stealthed - namely the ICMP ping, FTP and HTTP ports are all open)! Isn't this the job of your SMART firewall?? Even Windows firewall blocks FTP port 21, but apparently my NIS 2009 firewall knows nothing of this?

The Symantec Security Check goes on to suggest:

"Install a personal firewall. If you already have a personal firewall, make sure it is correctly configured for optimum protection"

Well, I already have a personal firewall, don't I? Paid lots of money for it too. I'd expect it to do better than this...

So can you please tell me - how do I stealth those ports?

I have a Dell 1730 laptop, I do not run a web or ftp server.

Look forward to your reply,

Andy
