Hi
I’ve been using Skype (and Norton) for quite some time now and never had any problems, until today. Twice within 24 hours my Norton tells me it has blocked an attack and tracks it down to \SKYPE\PHONE\SKYPE.EXE It also says; "IPS-Warning: OS Attack: GNU Bash CVE-2014-6271"
I found this, which is the main reason I’m posting here; “Severity: High. This attack could pose a serious security threat. You should take immediate action to stop any damage or prevent further damage from happening.”
The first attack came from NL and the second from UK, at least that is what I can find out through google. I don’t know what else you need to know, I’m terrible at this stuff. I’m running Windows 7 and Windows, Norton and Skype all have the latest updates. I've done complete scans with Norton and Malwarebytes and none of them can find a single infected file. Should I be worried or am I being paranoid? I read somewhere that ads within Skype might be a possible way to infect the system but I don’t know if that’s true, and I never click the ads anyway. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future? Sure Norton blocks the attacks but it shouldn’t get that far in the first place. I did contact the Skype support but it seems they can't help me.
Thanks for reading!
