Issue abstract: Can’t remove warning symbol.
Detailed description:
The Norton icon in lower right system tray has a warning triangle with an exclamation point in it. I click it and drill down the screen states “Your protection is strong, but could be stronger”. Clicking “see details” takes me to a screen where it wants me to “Restore all”, namely put my PC on to the Private network, and it wants to optimize my disk.
No thank you to both, I’m fine. But I can’t get rid of the warning symbol. Because of this Windows Security also has a warning triangle and it states “Actions recommended.”. How do I get rid of it.

What does the Windows Security Center say about the problem?
It refers me to the Norton app. I got rid of it by letting it finish optimizing my disk, even though I have that option disabled.
Norton should remove that phrase (“Attention! Your protection is strong, but…”) because when we change certain settings—like disabling automatic updates—that message shouldn’t appear; that’s how Avast handles it.

@New_Style_xd Post that suggestion in the product suggestions board. Norton will see it there better than tucked into the thread here. And of course Norton and Avast are at the core the same, functionality differs as they are two different product lines.

@user36141 Norton released a new version earlier today, version 26.6.11050 (build 26.6.11050.0). Have you seen and installed that update? If so did it correct the issue? TIA.

Yay, someone else who hates this! I have been vocal about it being an annoyance for a while now. I prefer having my network set to Public and running LiveUpdate manually. v22 Norton had absolutely no problem with either of those, but since the v24 update it complains about both. It’s even switched my network to Private without my permission on several occasions and had the utter audacity to put the orange exclamation point on the systray icon at one point re: me turning off automatic updates.
I really prefer performing manual updates, as it gives me full control over when I update.
That’s why I’d like the Norton team to follow Avast’s example and separate program updates from product updates—or at least stop displaying that annoying ‘X’ on the Norton icon and remove the phrase: “YOUR PROTECTION IS ALREADY STRONG, BUT IT CAN BE IMPROVED.” It looks terrible to see that message when you know you’re already protected; they should just remove it, the way Avast does with their products.
