Every time after I received the product update through Live Update, i.e. the latest 17. 7. 15, I would run Get Support (Auto Fix). Then the result would show there was an Installation Problem and the status was Failed ( Couldn't repair). And it suggested me to remove and reinstall Norton Internet Security 2012.
I did so, RnR the NIS. Then I ran Auto Fix, also there was an Installation problem but which could be fixed.
I have to RnR my NIS every time there is a new product update, this is so tiring
Is there anyone who can tell me why and help me out?

1. Downloaded for the very first time, that was 19.5.X.X perhaps...After that, NRnR for several times. Thanks to NRnR, no overtop.
2. ESET NOD32 Smart Security. I think it was completely uninstalled. I checked every possible directory, there is no residual.
3. No security software. I have iolo System Mechanic standard version (not include antivirus feature, just system utilities) installed, but NIS does say it is incompatible.( This issue was reported sometime ago by other people, but the result said that it was a false positive, since only iolo SM pro has av feature which may be conflicting)
4. I scan my computer very often, no threat detected.
In fact, these recent product updates which caused my problem were completed in background without my awareness. I found them when I started my computer the next day. However, after I RnR my NIS, I updated my product to latest version manually. Does that matter? Should I receive every inline update manually? I may not know the update is coming every time.
I run Get Support after each update since the first time I found the problem. I forget the error code, it suggested me to open online support, and the webpage asks me to RnR.
Yes, it is 19.7.1.5. It was a typo. Now I am using the latest one.
If the problem occurs again next time, I'll try Norton Removal tool instead.

I just wanted to clarify what yank suggested. That is to uninstall NIS through Programs and Features first and then follow that with the NRT. Do not just use the NRT by itself. If you need detailed instructions, please let us know.
I do not know a great deal about iolo System Mechanic standard version, but since it performs a number of functions including registry cleaning and since NIS warns of incompatibility, that may be the cause of your problem.
Last, I was going to suggest running the Eset Removal tool to be sure there are no remnants of the old program, but after reading the updated information and the almost dire warnings about using the tool, perhaps it is best to not consider that.
You mean Program and feature in control panel? The built-in uninstalling function? Is NRT used to remove any remnant after the default uninstallation process?
Forget to mention. Before I installed iolo system mechanic, the problem had already occurred. I think iolo is irrelevant.
Or, to eliminate a huge number of updates after installation:
Go to this page of the Norton Update Center and after selecting Start Download, chose to Save the Norton Download Manager to your desktop. (The advantage of the download manager is that it pulls in the most recent updates during installation.)
For temporary protection, turn on your Windows Firewall.
PLEASE Export / Backup you Identity Safe Data to a convenient location.
Have your product key handy.
Uninstall your current Norton Version via Add-Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
If prompted, do not select the option to save your settings. Select "Please remove all user data...." (see image here)
Restart your computer when prompted.
After the restart, run the Norton Removal Tool.
Restart your computer when prompted.
Right click on the downloaded NIS Installer or Norton Download Manager and select “Run As Administrator” (XP users just double click).
If prompted, enter your product key and set up your Norton account.
Check that Norton has turned OFF the Windows Firewall.
Run Live Update a few times until no more updates are available. Restarts may be required after some of the updates.
For your convenience, I have attached printable instructions.
I have my NIS reinstalled by following your instructions. And I ran Get Support too. The result was that it had successfully fixed an installation problem. And I copied the infomation as below:
Norton Internet Security 19.7.1.5 Error: 0, 0 Windows 7 Professional 7601.17803.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.120330-1504 Norton Autofix Results: 2 item(s) Conflicting Product - iolo technologies' System Mechanic :: Skipped Installation :: Success
This result is exactly the same with what I confronted after I used NRnR to reinstall NIS. Now that there is no new product update, I can not be sure whether my problem is fixed or not.
If the product is still requiring a fix after the clean installtion and Norton is flagging iolo System Mechanic as a conflicting product, then I think you have narrowed down the issue to iolo System Mechanic.
As previously mentioned, I am not very familiar with this product, nor am I a fan of using automated registry cleaners on a regular basis.
I think it boils down to this. If you want to keep iolo System Mechanic, then you may have to accept the inconvenience of the NRnR each time there is an inline update.
But since Norton flags this as a conflicting program, that would concern me on a daily basis as to whether it could be affecting Norton's protection features. I don't know for sure and I don't want to be an alarmist. Just expressing my thoughts.
Although I said earlier that before I was using iolo System Mechanic, the problem had already been there, I probably misremembered. Probably iolo SM is the cause.( Sigh). I bought iolo SM just half a month ago.
BTW, did you notice the 13th msg of this thread in which I had the other question that need your kind help.
